What changed since premarket

The 10-year closed above 5.1% after a weak five-year auction; a reported 90-day US diesel export ban split US and European product prices; hyperscaler credit spreads hit all-time wides while Nvidia's CEO said he expects to sell twice as many chips next year.

Main narratives

day change
01

A 19-year high in the 10-year and a weak five-year auction make the long end the binding constraint

The 10-year closed above 5.1%, a 19-year high, after flash PMIs beat by wide margins and a $70bn five-year auction cleared at 5.033% with a 3.3bp tail. Governor Barr said further hikes are likely needed and October hike odds reached 73%, prompting a Treasury buyback of up to $6bn. Clocktower's Wallerstein reads this as tightening into an energy shock and a 2022-style bear-market setup; Edward Jones' Mahajan calls it a two-to-three-hike mid-cycle adjustment.

02

A reported 90-day US diesel export ban is repricing physical product flows before any rule is signed

Politico reported the White House is preparing a 90-day diesel export ban, with splits inside the administration and with the oil industry. US diesel futures fell more than 7% while European diesel rose over 7%, and the USGC-Rotterdam spread collapsed to $1.86 a barrel, below clean-tanker freight. Energy Secretary Wright says a ban could raise gasoline prices and the API says it will not fix them; TheValueist argues refiner cash flow is unchanged.

03

Credit markets are repricing AI infrastructure risk while equity markets keep funding the buildout

Hyperscaler credit default swaps hit new all-time wides, with Oracle, Nvidia and Meta among the leaders, and the $27bn bond behind Meta's Hyperion data center fell to 94c from 110 at issue despite an A+ rating. SoftBank cleared over $11bn of junk near 10% yields with only a three-times book. UBS still models $5.5tn of hyperscale capex through 2029; the OECD says some of that spending is debt-funded with uncertain returns.

04

Nvidia's demand outlook and optical supply signals point higher while packaging forecasts point to a broader stack

Jensen Huang said he expects Nvidia to sell twice as many chips next year. Lumentum told Stifel that Nvidia Spectrum-6 co-packaged-optics laser demand rose materially, that NPO exceeds CPO in size with lasers lifting ASPs, and that laser demand exceeds supply; Marvell showed a 102.4 Tbps CPO platform. UBS forecasts Nvidia's CoWoS share falling to 49% by 2027, with Google and AMD gaining, and a benchmark puts TPUv7 56% ahead of GB200 NVL72.

Fastly on measured Muse traffic routing

ThematicTrader disclosed going long FSLY at $25.9 after a diligence thread's 738 controlled tests showed Meta's Muse routed 29.3% of traffic through Fastly and 100% of browser-navigation tests; he flagged a $4bn market cap with 20m shares short, and another account joined the sentiment turn the same day.

Hard assets financed by fiscal arithmetic

Gromen disclosed that 55% of his liquid net worth is in gold, miners and bitcoin with 20% in cash and T-bills, and evan_ss6 argues the fiscal path makes gold and bitcoin the long-term beneficiaries of a bond market that cannot be allowed to clear.

Meta's consumer agent distribution

StockMarketNerd's 2030 scenario has Muse as the most-used consumer agent with margins expanding as capex growth turns negative, Cantor Fitzgerald raised its target to $860 on a $1tn personal-agent TAM with inference cost per task falling 80%, and Thread Guy called Meta the strongest megacap trade as it ran toward $765 while the tape was red. Cantor still flags heavy near-term spending.

Refiners into the export-ban decision

TheValueist argues the diesel-ban selloff does not change refiner free cash flow and points to VLO's October 22 print as validation, while Energy Secretary Wright says a ban could raise gasoline prices and the API says it will not fix fuel prices; the policy text and VLO's numbers settle it.

Neoclouds: Nebius versus CoreWeave

SemiAnalysis' ClusterMAX 3.0 places Nebius alongside CoreWeave in the Platinum tier, while one holder rotated a large NBIS position into CRWV, arguing NBIS's average interest rate on debt is rising and CRWV trades at 2x 2027 revenue versus 6x for NBIS.

Obesity assets after the maintenance data

The best every-other-week cohort retained 97% of prior weight loss and a small weekly cohort reached 21.7% weight loss at week 33 without a plateau, but the author says the thesis stays incomplete pending VANQUISH Phase 3; VKTX is separately raising $200m of equity plus $200m of converts.

Intermediaries whose economics assume customer inertia

Meta's Muse launch knocked JPMorgan, Bank of America and Wells Fargo down more than 3% and Charles Schwab more than 6%, and Bloomberg's Sarah Frier flagged gym memberships, travel search and subscriptions as optimizable by agents, while Amazon said it does not want third-party agents purchasing on its platform.

Crowded mega-cap AI positioning flagged as froth

Larry McDonald points to Meta's call-to-put ratio hitting 13-to-1 and notes the two prior comparable extremes, Micron in late June and SLV in late January, preceded roughly 30% drops; he also flags Meta CDS rising sharply on a day the stock was up 12%. This is a positioning caution rather than a fundamentals short.
