What changed since premarket

Distillate scarcity, an October Fed hike priced near 60%, and record memory export data led; Anthropic's compute and IPO plans sat against power-equipment lead times, while open-weight models split views on AI moats.

Main narratives

day change
01

Aramco's European cut-off and Hormuz escalation tighten distillates further

Kloza puts lost global refining capacity at about 7 million barrels a day, almost all from drone damage, with diesel near $215 a barrel worldwide and $240 in Chicago. Aramco told European refiners they get no crude next month after the East-West pipeline attack, and US diesel set a record $6.45 a gallon. IRGC missiles targeted ships near Hormuz and VLCC rates spiked, while a Saudi bypass could restore partial flows within days.

02

October hike odds climb toward 60% as the long end keeps rising

Markets moved from 53% to 60% odds of an October 28 hike, with the 10-year back at 5% and the 30-year above 5.30%. Schmid supported the hike, called inflation above 3% and broad-based, and agreed with Warsh that growth and AI capital demand lift yields. Gromen counters that each 25bp adds about $50B to the deficit and prefers gold to short bonds; France was cut to A+ as its 10-year hit 4.56%.

03

AI demand plans outrun the power equipment needed to energize them

Anthropic plans 5GW of compute by year-end and roughly 10GW next year, expects over $100B of annualized revenue and is reported to target a November IPO at up to a $2T valuation. A Meta-linked data-center junk bond drew four times its size, and Nvidia extended convertible notes to Nscale. GE Vernova has roughly 10GW of turbine slots left for 2029-30 and transformers exceed 160 weeks, while Mag7 bidding is argued to cap neocloud margins.

04

Memory export and pricing data re-accelerate, but new supply and options flow cap the trade

South Korea's August memory exports reached $33.11B, up 289.3% year over year, with DRAM exports up 501.4%; HSBC sees server DRAM prices still rising, Micron crossed back above $1,000 and SanDisk is the S&P 500's best performer. Offsets: KB Securities expects Samsung's HBM share to reach about 40% by 4Q26, a Chinese DRAM maker is entering flash, and short-dated call flow repeated September's gamma squeeze.

Themes of the session

Z-score shows how far this edition's mention count is above or below the theme's own average across 20 comparable earlier editions. +2.7σ means mentions are 2.7 standard deviations above that average — simply, the theme is being mentioned much more often than usual. It measures attention, not bullishness or expected return. Themes need at least 8 posts; gold begins at +2σ, and σ is hidden when history is too thin.

Optical interconnect: a disclosed CRDO add and the networking bottleneck

CifrOracle disclosed a large further purchase of CRDO this week; KawzInvests argues GPUs sit idle waiting on storage, CPUs and inter-GPU transfer, so interconnect demand can grow even if GPU counts do not, tagging LITE, COHR, AAOI and CRDO.

Neocloud demand read-through from Anthropic's compute plans

Moninvestor argues Anthropic's plan for 5GW by end-2026 and roughly 10GW by end-2027 is bullish for IREN, CRWV and NBIS because hyperscalers alone cannot build fast enough; BlackPantherCap clarifies IREN's 85% figure covers the roughly 480MW 2026 buildout largely committed to Microsoft, only about 10% of its 5GW-plus pipeline.

Bloom Energy: 800V DC architecture claim with a disclosed position

BlackPantherCap discloses owning BE and being extremely bullish, citing Bloom's report that for a 1GW AI data center its 800V DC-native power cuts non-compute capex by $3.6B (27%) and five-year total cost of ownership by $5.5B (9%) versus traditional AC solutions.

ASIC versus merchant GPU mix

JPMorgan projects ASIC/XPU units reaching 55% of total units by 2028 from 32% in 2025, while HSBC says that outside Google the ASIC share among major cloud providers stays steady from 2025 into Q2 2026; hyperscaler capex disclosures and ASIC ramp data decide whether merchant GPU or custom-silicon exposure carries AI compute beta.

Micron into the September 30 print

TheValueist flags Micron's September 30 report with a 7.4% implied move, expects significant interim color on HBM/DRAM/NAND health and argues the Street is still far too light on CY27 estimates.

CoreWeave's interest and stock-comp burden

A bear case details $640M of net interest expense against $2.58B of revenue, equal to 25% of revenue going to interest, and $165M of stock compensation equal to 142% of operating income before SBC, plus dilution; the author says NBIS and even IREN offer better exposure to the same neocloud sector.

Netflix engagement risk

Wells Fargo cut Netflix to underweight with a Street-low $57 target from $80 on user engagement concerns, arguing the company needs a breakout original hit; Bloomberg reported it as the first bearish rating in months, with the target far below the $95 average.
