What changed since premarket

A Democratic sweep is largely priced, while Menlo data put Google's enterprise API share at 9% versus Anthropic's 55%. AI capex is also a credit and power problem: hyperscaler/semi CDS interest has reached 14%, and Talen puts new combined-cycle power above $120/MWh.

Main narratives

day change
01

A Democratic sweep is largely priced; a GOP Senate hold would be a relief trade, not a policy all-clear

Prediction markets put a Democratic sweep near 95% for the House and 79% for the Senate, so ParadisLabs calls it largely priced. One X account, @temple_eight, says a Republican Senate hold would spark a tech/semi relief rally to sell. Bloomberg guests warn divided government leaves tariff, executive-action and Fed-tightening risk. The historical midterm tape favors fourth-quarter gains, but Senate control is the surprise.

02

Google's search and enterprise AI position weakens as Apple's licensing warning points to deceleration

Apple's weak third-party licensing outlook implies further Google search deceleration, while Menlo Ventures data show Google's enterprise API share fell to 9% from 21% as Anthropic rose to 55%. ChatGPT search-like volume is about one-fifth of Google's. A Reddit value screen illustrates the valuation debate: it puts GOOGL at $72 versus $279.75, hinging on whether AI capex is growth or maintenance.

03

AI capex is now a credit-market test as Meta seeks $15B-$20B and big tech announces $60B of debt

Meta is seeking $15B in the US-dollar portion of a bond offering, with the WSJ reporting at least $20B; Microsoft, Meta, Oracle and Alphabet announced about $60B of new debt last week. Hyperscalers and semis now account for 14% of corporate CDS interest, up from 4%. Demand is not the issue; funding cost has become a binding constraint for neoclouds and AI suppliers.

04

AI's power constraint is getting more expensive and slower: Talen's $120/MWh and '2029 becoming the new 2028'

Talen's management said new combined-cycle power is north of $120/MWh all-in and costs keep rising, while data-center site development is slipping from 2028 into 2029. Eaton's electrical sales and guidance still beat, and JPMorgan is chasing Europe's grid overhaul. The demand signal is strong; the neglected constraint is that power cost and interconnection timing can delay AI revenue and squeeze developers.
