What changed since midday

AI financing is the common thread: OpenAI's smaller raise, Oracle's $20B equity/debt package and CoreWeave bonds under 80 cents are tightening the capex chain, while the Marvell-Lumentum repricing, Apple's China miss and an $8/bbl oil slide set tomorrow's cross-asset tests.

Main narratives

day change
01

AI capex is now a financing test: OpenAI's smaller raise and Oracle's $20B package expose the cost of capital

OpenAI cut its private round to about $20B from $30B while holding a $1.25T pre-money mark; Oracle filed $10B of equity plus $10B of debt and fell 9%; Meta is testing a cross-border investment-grade bond sale; CoreWeave bonds trade below 80 cents. Anthropic's amended S-1 shows $16.96B of quarterly revenue but $895B of commitments and a lower adjusted margin. The squeeze is selection, not the disappearance of AI demand.

02

Lumentum's strong quarter is trapped inside Marvell's falling acquisition currency

Lumentum reported $1.26B of revenue, $4.57 adjusted EPS and guided next quarter to about $1.6B, with a second $5B CPO/NPO win. Its all-stock sale to Marvell values each LITE share at 4.5 MRVL shares; BofA cut its Marvell target to $225 on dilution, and one upgrade called the selloff overdone. Holders receive about one-third of the combined company, not cash.

03

Apple beat the quarter, but China, memory costs and a 2007-era multiple shift the test to guidance

Apple reported $114.48B of revenue and $2.10 of EPS, with iPhone at $57.58B above consensus; Greater China was $17.54B versus $18.75B expected and services slightly missed. Management guided first-quarter revenue growth of 7-10% and flagged rising memory prices. The stock fell about 4% after hours despite a $24B buyback.

04

Oil's Iran-diplomacy slide lowers near-term inflation risk but leaves long-dated supply security and jet cracks repriced

WTI settled at $96.46, down 7.36%, and Brent at $104.77, down 7.63%, after Trump said Iran wants a settlement and there is no rush to renew the war. Gold rose 2.5% to $3,957 and silver 3.3%. Yet Jeff Currie says long-dated Brent near $100 and WTI above $90 reflect an energy-security regime, while refiners face an unexpected crack-spread collapse.

Nebius dip buyers keep averaging down

Disclosed buyers are averaging into Nebius despite the slide: @ren_stocks says he will keep buying and DCA lower, @beauty_oe bought at $143 and called it too cheap, and a Reddit holder is still adding after buying heavily at $26. A Modal employee cited Nebius's software stack as the differentiator.

CoreWeave bonds below 80 cents expose neocloud financing risk

CoreWeave bonds trade below 80 cents on the dollar, implying yields above 15%, and the stock made a new all-time low. @oguzerkan argues the issue is financing: hyperscalers are still tapping debt, and a few points of higher coupon cost change neocloud economics, especially CoreWeave.

Refiners face an unexpected crack-spread collapse

TheValueist flagged a sudden crack-spread collapse, saying nothing in independent or integrated refiner earnings calls suggested margins would compress this quickly. That undercuts the earnings power implied by recent refining profits and makes energy equities a different trade from crude.
