Main narratives

day change
01

Oracle will offer Google TPUs, Cerebras and SambaNova chips on its cloud alongside Nvidia's Vera Rubin

Oracle announced that Google TPUs will be available on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure in calendar 2027, ramping over several years, the first time they will be offered on a hyperscale cloud outside Google. Oracle is also adding inference chips from Cerebras and SambaNova, while Nvidia and Oracle plan to expand Vera Rubin NVL72 clusters on OCI to multi-gigawatt scale. At Oracle's AI World conference, Oracle said it will integrate OpenAI's tools into its application stack.

02

Gavin Baker says compute is getting tighter, with spot rents rising and 2027 capacity priced at a premium

On TBPN, Gavin Baker of Atreides Management said spot compute rental rates are rising and forward contracts for 2027 capacity are pricing at large premiums, even as large supply additions are announced. Blackstone's Jon Gray said neoclouds that get through will find compute pricing up 50%, per @firesidealpha. The episode's counterpoint: slower training needs could release capacity into inference and pressure pricing.

03

Seagate guided Q2 revenue to $4.8 billion and says most nearline supply is contracted through 2028

Seagate's fiscal Q1 revenue rose 61% to $4.23 billion, and it guided Q2 revenue to $4.8 billion against roughly $4.53 billion consensus, per @thebigberbowski. Seagate said the vast majority of its nearline exabyte supply is allocated under long-term agreements through calendar 2028, with some cloud agreements running to 2030. In memory, SK hynix shares fell about 48% since July 1 while the spot price of the 16Gb DDR5 chip @tengyanAI tracks in Tessara rose 31%.

04

The Energy Department offered Constellation up to $5 billion to add about 1.1 GW through reactor uprates

The Energy Department made a conditional loan commitment of up to $5 billion for Constellation to uprate existing reactors, which would add roughly 1.1 GW across 15 reactors at eight sites, Energy Secretary Christopher Wright told CNBC. Hubbell's data-center sales grew more than 80% organically and its utility backlog rose more than $500 million year to date, per TheValueist. CenterPoint added $4 billion to its capital plan, though about 2 GW of studied load withdrew.
