The AI-safety selloff repriced visibility, not yet capex
Anthropic, OpenAI and Musk called over the weekend to pace frontier development. The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index fell about 5%, Nvidia opened 3.7% lower, and Marvell, AMD and Vertiv sold off. Both labs said they do not intend to slow overall business or investment plans. Gavin Baker argues pacing means more compute on alignment, monitoring and evals at lower margins, while jasonschips argues mainstreamed safety makes AI a regulated industry where compute is worth less.
