What changed since midday

Hot CPI revived hike odds and shifted leadership to energy and cash-flow names, while CoreWeave's bonds slid into distress and forced a repricing of AI-infrastructure credit. Refiners hit records on war-driven diesel scarcity, and power and cooling capacity — not chips — is the buildout's binding constraint.

Main narratives

day change
01

CoreWeave's credit, not its demand, is now the AI trade's swing factor

CoreWeave's 2032 notes closed below 80 cents at a yield above 15% and CDS implied a 58% five-year default probability; Gartner separately forecast that 80% of neocloud providers would stop operating independently by 2030, with data-center owners needing $8.5T of revenue against $3.6T of AI revenue available. Bulls answer that only ~4% of CoreWeave's debt pays 15% and its blended cost is ~8.4%, making the yield chart a misleading cash-cost signal.

02

War-driven diesel scarcity has made refiners the market's cleanest cash-flow trade

WTI settled at $95.09 and Brent at $106.06 as Iranian attacks on Hormuz shipping — nearly 20 tankers hit in a month — and strikes on Aramco's Jeddah facilities kept a war premium in place. US retail diesel is up more than 70% to $6.29 a gallon, refiners and integrated majors printed record highs, and TheValueist's VLO/MPC/PSX/DK/CLMT basket is pitched as a low-correlation hedge. The dollar's highest level since April 2025 complicates the devaluation framing.

03

Hot CPI has revived December-hike odds, and rate-sensitive assets are the collision zone

September CPI rose about 3.7% year over year with core above consensus, and Citi added a December hike while still projecting 2027 cuts. The Beige Book shifted toward acceleration — four districts saw faster price growth, energy became an all-district catalyst, and firms warned expiring fixed contracts force renegotiation at spot. Small caps entered correction; utilities, staples and healthcare led; the Fed's Williams still counseled no urgent action.

04

Power and cooling capacity, not silicon, are the AI buildout's binding constraint

Grid interconnections take roughly a decade, so added megawatts must come from efficiency: cooling consumes 10–30% of a data center's power, and Modine is credited with 15–20% more cooling per watt plus an agreement reserving about half its chiller output through 2029. Digital Realty is offering De Soto, Kansas households $1,000 a year for ten years from a $20M fund; Eaton counts 342GW announced against 50GW operating.

Themes of the session

Z-score shows how far this edition's mention count is above or below the theme's own average across 20 comparable earlier editions. +2.7σ means mentions are 2.7 standard deviations above that average — simply, the theme is being mentioned much more often than usual. It measures attention, not bullishness or expected return. Themes need at least 8 posts; gold begins at +2σ, and σ is hidden when history is too thin.
