What matters before the open

CoreWeave is the pressure point — a ~$35B funding gap, unsecured yields near 15%, credit markets pricing more than 60% five-year default risk — with Nvidia's CEO defending it and a reported ~$14M Cathie Wood buy. GPU rental prices and memory-2027 estimates still show demand; the long end is near 5.08%.

Main narratives

day change
01

CoreWeave's funding arithmetic, not AI demand, is the trade's pressure point

Deutsche Bank sizes a $35B funding gap over 12-18 months against $10B of operating cash flow; unsecured bonds near 15% would add ~$2.6B of annual interest, more than the $2.1B loss analysts expect. Credit markets price more than 60% five-year default risk and co-founders have sold $3.3B since IPO. Bulls — Jensen Huang defending its financial health, a reported $14M Cathie Wood purchase — push back; the mispriced variable is financing, not GPUs.

02

Rental prices, power gear and data-centre materials keep confirming physical AI demand

Blackwell Ultra rental prices rose 17 straight sessions to about $7.45/hour and Nebius lifted its B300 rate ~21%, with a GPU cluster architect saying expiring contracts draw 15-20 rival bidders. Schneider Electric beat on 16.9% organic growth and raised 2026 targets on triple-digit data-centre demand; Alcoa says data centres use ~30 tons of aluminum per megawatt. Against that, Brad Gerstner says public markets ran ahead of AI revenues.

03

Consensus 2027 memory estimates look too low even as Korea trades a China supply scare

Jonah Lupton argues consensus 45-50% CY2027 revenue growth for top memory makers is too low and sketches 70-75% if HBM pricing holds and DRAM/NAND rise 5% sequentially, leaving SK Hynix near 2x 2027 EPS. Phison's CEO calls the CXMT glut scare a 'ghost story' and expects a shortage of everything next year. The counter: KB Securities' 5-7 year Samsung-CXMT gap estimate drew pushback, and Korea's bounce has been retail-led while foreigners sell.

04

Softer hike odds have not relieved the long end or mortgage rates, and housing is cracking

CPI and PPI both ran hot, yet the Fed chair's restrained tone pulled October hike odds to roughly 15% from 25%. The 30-year Treasury yield sits near 5.08% with Peter Brandt targeting 8%, 30-year mortgages near 7.4%, and homebuilder sentiment and completions weakening. Ron Butler expects the US and Canadian housing downturn to run to 2028, sees a Bank of Canada hike by December, and warns foreclosure sales are printing new lows.

Semis at the index level — levels, not conviction

Labubu Trader is not long semis, is watching SOXX around $530 and $500 as the levels bulls and bears must take, and flags Anthropic's ~$85B ARR against sell-side expectations of $100–120B by the end of 2026 and some buyside expectations above $120B that he considers too high.

CoreWeave and levered neoclouds

Bloomberg's Neil Campling says CoreWeave's funding model is under pressure, a trader citing a Point72 contact calls it the biggest risk to the AI complex, and r/ValueInvesting argues debt costs near 15% may exceed AI-cloud project IRRs.
