What changed since premarket

Gavin Baker argues open-weight competition is bullish for AI infrastructure; Lumentum says it is sold out through early 2029; Delta cut its 2026 EPS guide while absorbing a $6 billion fuel-cost increase; Apple reportedly cut iPhone 18 Pro component orders as memory costs rise.

01

Gavin Baker argues frontier-model price cuts reflect share loss to open-weight models and are good for AI infrastructure demand

Gavin Baker asks whether frontier models are cutting prices because they are losing share to open-weight models, and says that, given positive elasticity, those cuts are good for AI infra demand. He argues an open-weight token uses roughly the same compute as a frontier token, that less model-layer revenue does not mean less infra spend, and that an Anthropic and OpenAI duopoly is the worst outcome for infra demand.

02

Lumentum's CEO says it is sold out through early 2029, and AAOI's CFO said its supply is spoken for into late 2027

Lumentum traded 6.5% higher premarket after its CEO said its optical components are sold out through 2029, per Newsquawk. @ren_stocks says he cited 2028 six months ago, that new laser capacity takes three to five years and that hyperscalers now help fund it. @gaetano2026 recalls AAOI's CFO saying in August that supply was effectively spoken for through the second half of 2027 and beyond.

03

Delta cut its 2026 EPS guide to $5.10-$5.60 from $6.50-$7.50 while absorbing a $6 billion fuel-cost increase

Delta now sees full-year adjusted EPS of $5.10 to $5.60, down from $6.50 to $7.50, and pre-tax profit of about $4.5 billion after absorbing a $6 billion fuel-cost increase. Its refinery offsets part of that: @thevalueist notes Delta guided about 40 cents a gallon of Q4 refinery benefit, versus 13 cents in Q3, and reads it as Delta expecting jet refining margins to stay wide through year-end.

04

Apple reportedly cut iPhone 18 Pro component orders as higher memory costs lift handset prices

Apple traded 2% lower premarket on a report, listed by Newsquawk, that it cut October component orders for the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max by 15-20% amid weaker-than-expected demand. Bloomberg's Ed Ludlow links the Nikkei report to higher memory costs lifting handset prices. Bernstein figures relayed by @pequityresearch show memory pricing drove about 80% of the chip industry's 119% year-to-date revenue growth through August.
