01

OpenAI's reported $50 billion run rate hit chipmakers and Oracle, though the updated FT report pairs it with $70 billion gross

OpenAI reportedly told investors its annualized revenue was approaching $50 billion at end-September, about $20 billion below the $70 billion previously reported, and Oracle fell more than 5%. @firstadopter says the updated FT article gives $50 billion net and $70 billion gross, with a Microsoft revenue share, reportedly 20%, explaining most of the gap. Serenity (@aleabitoreddit) argues the headline does not end the laser or memory shortages.

02

Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile fell 6.6% to 7.2% after SpaceX agreed to acquire nationwide 800 MHz spectrum for Starlink Mobile

SpaceX agreed to acquire a nationwide portfolio of up to 14 MHz of paired 800 MHz low-band spectrum; the announcement, quoted by @firstadopter, says it will pave the way for Starlink Mobile to become a major US mobile carrier. Telecom stocks slid after the purchase: Verizon fell 6.6%, AT&T 7.2% and T-Mobile 6.6%. Elon Musk called it the last critical spectrum piece for complete US phone coverage.

03

Hurricane Isaias puts nearly 500,000 barrels a day of Gulf refining in its path as Brent settled at $104.28

Brent settled up 4.07% at $104.28 and WTI up 3.64% at $91.49. Per Bloomberg, relayed by TheValueist, nearly 500,000 barrels a day of refining capacity sit in Isaias's projected path, offshore producers have shut in more than 60% of crude output, and diesel set an all-time record in September. Trump said the US will not strike Iran before the November midterms, while Bloomberg noted continued shipping incidents in the Strait of Hormuz.

04

Oracle is trucking natural gas to keep data centers on track as Bernstein's Rasgon says power, land and clean rooms, not demand, bind AI

Bloomberg reports Oracle is trucking natural gas directly to several data centers to keep them on track, and FirstSquawk reported Oracle could truck gas to a New Mexico site in place of a delayed pipeline. Bernstein's Stacy Rasgon says the binding constraints are physical, land, power and clean-room capacity, rather than customer appetite. Solaris Energy Infrastructure operates roughly 4 GW of power and plans another 2.5 GW over two years using gas turbines.
