What matters before the open

The Fed's hold shifted tightening to the long end as AI spending split between self-funded Microsoft and weaker cash conversion. Semis show real demand but forced deleveraging argues against bottom-calling; AXTI and CPO offer contract-backed, execution-testable optics signals.

Main narratives

day change
01

The hold outsourced tightening to the long end

DoubleLine preferred the short end and remained negative on the long end; Komal Sri-Kumar advised shorter duration and principal protection. An unaudited Reddit repost of Jeffrey Gundlach likewise said the long bond demanded action, while Labubu linked wider breakevens to gold.

02

Compute is scarce, but financing quality now decides the multiple

Serenity says Microsoft demand still exceeds capacity and Meta receives premium offers for compute. ParadisLabs and an unaudited Reddit author draw the sharper distinction: Microsoft's cloud cash funds the buildout, whereas Meta paired $31.1bn quarterly capex with only $784m free cash flow.

03

Physical demand survived, but a leverage washout is not a bottom signal

A top-ranked curator reproduced Samsung Electro-Mechanics saying it had about ten AI-server MLCC LTAs, while ParadisLabs described Korea's selling as increasingly mechanical. The reposted FT data show margin debt falling after forced liquidation; 0xKyle counters that cash remains king and no V-recovery setup exists.

04

The optics thesis gained contracts, cash and near-term revenue tests

AXT's Lumentum agreement carries two $43.5m deposits and reserved InP capacity through 2031. Serenity says FormFactor now expects annual CPO revenue to significantly exceed $20m. Gaetano opened a small AXTI position at $37 but made the thesis conditional on permits, margins and the 2027–2028 ramp.

Themes of the session

?
Z-score shows how far this edition's mention count is above or below the theme's own average across 20 comparable earlier editions. +2.7σ means mentions are 2.7 standard deviations above that average — simply, the theme is being mentioned much more often than usual. It measures attention, not bullishness or expected return. Themes need at least 8 posts; gold begins at +2σ, and σ is hidden when history is too thin.
