Broadcom is reportedly seeking over $50 billion of financing for OpenAI's chip as SpaceX's credit risk hit a fresh high

Per the WSJ, via the Kobeissi Letter, Broadcom is seeking more than $50 billion in financing for OpenAI's custom AI chip, with Apollo and Blackstone among the lenders it has talked to. Bloomberg reports a measure of SpaceX's credit risk surged to a fresh high and its bonds tumbled after reports it is in talks to raise $40 billion to buy Nvidia chips. Zerohedge says Oracle bond yields and CDS hit record highs.

KB Securities expects Samsung's HBM prices to more than double in 2027, ahead of Samsung's Q3 preliminary results tonight

The AI Investor relays KB Securities' view that Samsung's HBM prices will rise more than 100% in 2027, local media reports that Samsung proposed mid-to-high $4 per gigabit for 2027 HBM4 versus roughly $1.50 for HBM3E, and a TrendForce forecast of a 121% rise in blended HBM prices. Samsung's Q3 preliminary results are due tonight, with consensus at about $79 billion of operating profit, per AlmaCap.

03

Winstek more than doubled its 2026 capex plan as AI chip testing tightens, while Teradyne's burn-in launch raised competition questions for Aehr

TengYan notes Taiwan test house Winstek approved NT$13.4 billion of 2026 capex against a December plan of NT$5.6 billion, and says parent Sigurd is raising test prices, per Taiwan press, and that customers are locking in capacity. Aehr announced about $6 million of follow-on Sonoma orders from its lead hyperscale customer, while PhotonCap argues Teradyne's Titan HP, already deployed in production, could pressure Sonoma's new orders and pricing.

04

Tropical Storm Isaias shut in about a quarter of federal Gulf oil output, and Shell expects record third-quarter refining margins

TheValueist cites operator reports showing 511,619 b/d of oil and 350.25 MMcf/d of gas shut in by 11 a.m. CDT, about 25% and 16% of anticipated federal Gulf production, and notes these are curtailments, not evidence of damage. Reuters reports Shell expects third-quarter refining margins of $42 a barrel, a record, up from $24. Zerohedge says diesel crack spreads shot back above $100 as refiners pass on shipping costs.

Temple_eight argues, among other reasons, that LWLG is a short because all of its income is tied to Polariton, which Marvell acquired, under a contract that expires next year with no evidence of renewal.
