photoncap is PhotonCap, a pseudonymous, independent research publication on photonics and semiconductors that has posted on X as Photon Capital since September 2025 and published a Substack newsletter since December 2025. Its About page says the author runs it alone alongside a day job in the photonics industry, holds a PhD in electrical engineering specialising in photonics and has more than a decade of optics and photonics research and engineering experience. It explains how physical and manufacturing limits shape companies and markets, covering silicon photonics, co-packaged optics and other optical interconnects for AI data centres, memory packaging, compound-semiconductor substrates, chip test equipment and quantum hardware. Formats include a photonics lecture series, company deep dives, earnings analysis, conference-paper reviews and Investment Map pieces that chart listed companies across supply chains such as subsea cables and quantum computing.
