What changed since premarket

AI demand is outrunning compute, optics and power, but debt and lease obligations raise the return bar. Snowflake shows software can monetize AI, while sticky inflation, record diesel margins and a CPI-dependent Fed keep duration volatile.

Main narratives

day change
01

AI demand is outrunning physical capacity

Outages at frontier-model providers and commentary across Nvidia, Dell, HPE, Broadcom, Ciena and Credo point to demand above available compute, memory, substrates and optics. Power is the next gate: hyperscalers are using 20-year nuclear PPAs, while the administration wants new data centers to add generation. Delivery timelines, rather than end demand, now set the near-term revenue ceiling.

02

Optical suppliers have gained pricing power

Broadcom's near-term guide was constrained by optical components, not orders. Ciena says negotiated price increases of high single digits to low 20s apply even to existing backlog, while Evercore estimates Lumentum still underships demand by more than 30%. Sivers' 100 million-laser target arrives only in late 2027. Scarcity supports margins, but delayed capacity also caps shipments.

03

Enterprise software is beginning to monetize AI

Snowflake's CEO says governed enterprise data is creating an AI adoption flywheel, while the company guided to 36% growth for FY2027. Strong results from Twilio, Palantir and CrowdStrike also weaken the claim that AI simply displaces SaaS. The remaining test is earnings quality: sustained product growth and customer migration must offset the cost of delivering agentic workloads.

04

Inflation keeps the Fed and duration in a two-sided trade

Fed Governor Waller opened the door to a September hold, but only if August CPI extends disinflation. Against that, 54% of the PCE basket is rising above 3%, diesel refining margins reached a record $106 a barrel, and BOJ normalization is lifting developed-market yields together. Intermediate Treasuries offer 5-6% income, yet the inflation and global term-premium tests remain unresolved.

Themes of the session

?
Z-score shows how far this edition's mention count is above or below the theme's own average across 20 comparable earlier editions. +2.7σ means mentions are 2.7 standard deviations above that average — simply, the theme is being mentioned much more often than usual. It measures attention, not bullishness or expected return. Themes need at least 8 posts; gold begins at +2σ, and σ is hidden when history is too thin.
