What matters before the open

AAOI’s demand story is now an execution test; memory remains undersupplied despite CXMT’s expansion; Hormuz is feeding oil and rate risk; and strong earnings support equities even as yen-funded liquidity stays fragile.

01

AAOI’s demand story has turned into a manufacturing test

Specialist reactions to the same earnings call agree that orders exceed available output and that Q4 carries the largest delivery step-up. The disagreement is valuation and execution: holders are staying concentrated, while Martin Shkreli disclosed a short, arguing a temporary bottleneck does not create a great business. Capacity delivery now decides the setup.

02

CXMT’s expansion does not end the memory shortage yet

Industry specialists still see China’s HBM demand absorbing much of CXMT’s expansion, even as new wafer capacity arrives. The opposing view is that visible capacity growth will end the shortage; the stronger source evidence says HBM allocation and domestic consumption delay that outcome. Memory pricing stays supported, but future supply discipline matters more with every new fab.

03

Hormuz risk is becoming a rate problem too

Shipping risk in Hormuz remains unresolved: Iran’s proposed rules were not yet formal, and vessels still faced attack risk. Oil gains were already lifting bond yields and reinforcing higher-for-longer rate expectations. The market implication now runs beyond energy; a credible passage agreement would relieve both inflation pressure and the valuation headwind on long-duration equities.

04

Strong earnings support equities, but yen funding can still break the path

Earnings remain strong enough to support ambitious S&P targets, but the route is less stable than the headline bull case suggests. Yen intervention can force leveraged carry trades to unwind through margin calls and risk limits, creating a selloff without an earnings recession. The index can keep rising while remaining vulnerable to a sudden funding shock.

Themes of the session

?
Z-score shows how far this edition's mention count is above or below the theme's own average across 20 comparable earlier editions. +2.7σ means mentions are 2.7 standard deviations above that average — simply, the theme is being mentioned much more often than usual. It measures attention, not bullishness or expected return. Themes need at least 8 posts; gold begins at +2σ, and σ is hidden when history is too thin.

Memory buyers — peak not confirmed

TheValueist does not think memory and storage pricing has peaked, so the expected hyperscaler return-on-capital boost remains a later-cycle possibility rather than a current fact.
