What matters before the open

France's 10-year premium over Bunds hit ~152bp, widest since 2011. HBM4 quotes above $4/Gb and Micron customers extending agreements into 2031 tightened the memory squeeze. Optical is a CPO-versus-NPO timing call; Broadcom's syndicate is gathering $60bn and Amazon may shift ~$8bn of Nvidia chips off its balance sheet.

Main narratives

day change
01

France's record OAT-Bund widening is repricing euro-area sovereign risk, with Bunds catching haven flows

France's 10-year yield premium over Germany reached roughly 150-152bp, the widest since late 2011, after a record weekly move from 120bp. Sumitomo Mitsui DS Asset Management sold its entire French government bond holdings, shifting into German bunds and short-term JGBs. Moody's said a 2027 budget compromise is far from certain, and German 10-year yields fell 10bp to a three-week low as euro-area inflation printed 3.8%.

02

Optical interconnect is a CPO-versus-NPO timing bet, and test demand is the common thread

PhotonCap and Crack The Market map merchant PIC fabrication as an unmapped layer: Tower took $290m of prepayments to reserve 2027 capacity, Soitec holds roughly 95% of 300mm Photonics-SOI, and STMicroelectronics is a Tower-scale merchant absent from foundry maps. Damnang argues CPO is delayed and NPO ships first, with 18-engine assemblies compounding defect odds, keeping optical test demand intact even if CPO is late; the bear case is wafer pricing rather than fab capacity.

03

Memory's shortage is being repriced as multi-year, with HBM4 pricing and supply discipline the swing factors

Micron's CEO said the company cannot fulfil customer demand and that customers are extending agreements into the 2031 timeframe. Korean media report Samsung quoting HBM4 at mid-to-high $4 per gigabit, over three times HBM3E's $1.50; AlmaCap calculates that a ~2.3x step-up from 2026's ~$1.95/Gb leaves 2027 estimates too low. Raspberry Pi raised prices by $12.50 on memory costs, and Toshiba plans to double AI data-center HDD capacity by FY2027.

04

AI capex is increasingly tied to credit and off-balance-sheet structures

Broadcom's Wall Street syndicate is gathering $60bn of AI chip financing to benefit Anthropic and other companies, while Bloomberg/FT report Amazon is exploring shifting about $8bn of Nvidia chips off its balance sheet. Paramount's $52bn debt issuance traded poorly and CCC credits sat around 1100bp, even as Forward Guidance flags hyperscaler capex growth slowing from over 90% to roughly 30-35% next year and memory cost inflation absorbing 30% of 2026 AI data-center spend.

Disclosed AI-adjacent equity buys in oversold megacaps

Ed Elson says he bought Meta at the low of 560 and bought Microsoft earlier when it was punished in the SaaS selloff, framing both as oversold public AI-exposed names while private frontier labs carry the bubble risk.

Space names held through a drawdown

Kaizen_Investor states he owns Planet Labs and Rocket Lab, a direct disclosed long in space assets, held through a steep Planet share-price decline; the same account separately called space the one area where fear is justified.

Index dip-buying into payrolls

u/Smart_Money_HQ entered long SPY at $760 and QQQ at $740 after spending most of September in a sell-into-rallies stance, plans to trim most of the short-term position before payrolls and leave roughly 30% through the release, and keeps an 8,000 year-end S&P target with 8,300 as the optimistic case.

AI infrastructure on midterm weakness

Kieran Calder of UBP says hyperscaler capex is up this year and will still grow into next year, and the firm would add to AI infrastructure exposure on any weakness into the November midterms; he cites US tech earnings growth above 30% this year, more than double what the market expected at the start of the year.

Memory upside with a leverage caveat

ParadisLabs calls 20-25% upside in memory over the next couple of quarters realistic and even conservative, but flags that hedge fund and asset manager leverage has rebounded near 2026 highs, especially in semis ex-memory and hyperscaler single-stock leveraged ETFs, as a volatility source.

Cerebras

CKCapital argues OpenAI's new ultrafast model runs on Nvidia rather than Cerebras, undercutting the inference-speed pitch, and notes the COO sold $78M of stock and walked away with zero shares; firstadopter flags CFO, COO and accounting-officer selling alongside silence on the model.
