Korea memory chips undervalued, China threat overstated
Korean memory chipmakers Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix are deeply undervalued and the Chinese memory threat from CXMT and YMTC is overblown. CXMT's plan to expand to 600k wpm is blocked by US Department of Defense blacklist and equipment shortages. China cannot get enough semiconductor equipment because global equipment makers are fully booked by TSMC and Korean memory giants. DUV lithography progress in China is overstated and real mass production is at least a decade away. Apple will be forced to stop using YMTC NAND due to political pressure. Meanwhile memory supply shortage lasts through 2028, with LTA contracts locking in stable high prices, and HBM demand strengthening. The valuation gap with TSMC (PBR 1x vs 10x) is excessive.
Equipment super-cycle, China demand squeezed out
Global semiconductor equipment makers ASML, Applied Materials, and Lam Research are in a massive capex super-cycle. The top memory 3 and TSMC are investing a combined $164 billion, which is unprecedented. China's share of equipment sales is collapsing because most equipment is prioritized for Korea and Taiwan. Blacklist restrictions will keep Chinese memory fabs starved of advanced tools for at least 5 years, making the threat to incumbents negligible.
Samsung Electro-Mechanics valuation now comparable to Murata
Samsung Electro-Mechanics has corrected sharply and its forward P/E is now comparable to top-tier Murata at around 33x, after being absurdly expensive at 100x. This valuation convergence creates a tradable bounce opportunity within the MLCC and substrate space.
Doosan value chain integration positive
Doosan's acquisition of a 70.6% stake in SK Siltron, the only domestic wafer maker, completes its semiconductor value chain from front-end materials to back-end testing. The deal was structured favorably with limited upfront cash and downside protection, and the market is rewarding the improved vertical integration.
Nuclear stocks rally on Bill Gates catalyst
Nuclear energy stocks, especially Doosan Enerbility, are set to rally on the expected visit of Bill Gates and discussions around TerraPower SMR technology. Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power is already in talks, and the power infrastructure super-cycle supports further gains.
SK Innovation multiple energy catalysts
SK Innovation stands to benefit from multiple energy tailwinds: recovering refining margins, petrochemical price recovery, and a potential Bill Gates visit linked to nuclear SMR cooperation. US energy majors like Chevron and Exxon Mobil are rallying despite falling oil prices, signaling strength in the integrated energy space.
Cosmetics rebound on strong exports, rotation play
Cosmetics stocks offer a strong rebound play supported by exceptional export data and improving earnings. After being overlooked during the semiconductor rally, names like APR, Amorepacific, LG Household & Health Care, and Cosmax are attractively priced and seeing renewed institutional interest, positioning them as beneficiaries of sector rotation when large-cap tech consolidates.
Robotics stocks leading rotation, strong momentum
Korean robotics stocks are emerging as the next rotation leader when semiconductor names pause. Physical AI and data center expansion drive demand for robots, reducers, and actuators. SPG shows the strongest relative strength recovery, and TXR Robotics is surging on heavy volume even as the broader market declines, signaling institutional accumulation.
Hyundai Motor breakout on robotics linkage
Hyundai Motor is approaching a technical breakout from a significant base, with the potential to run to the 400,000 won area. It is directly leveraged to the robotics and physical AI theme, acting as a large-cap proxy for the sector.
Securities stocks strong on record trading volumes
Korean securities stocks are set to deliver exceptionally strong earnings driven by record trading volumes and heightened volatility. With the market still pricing in uncertainty, these brokers offer a clean, direct play on elevated turnover.
