Hormuz disruption tightens nitrogen and phosphate supply.
The conflict near the Strait of Hormuz has shut down a critical chokepoint for global fertilizer trade. About one-third of the world's urea, the most-traded nitrogen product, flows through there, and three of the world's top 10 urea exporters (Iran, Qatar, Saudi Arabia) sit behind the strait. Saudi Arabia is also a top-5 phosphate exporter. That supply is stacked up and production is suffering, causing nitrogen and phosphate prices to skyrocket on fear of lack of supply.
