Hormuz disruption tightens nitrogen and phosphate supply.
The conflict near the Strait of Hormuz has shut down a critical chokepoint for global fertilizer trade. About one-third of the world's urea, the most-traded nitrogen product, flows through there, and three of the world's top 10 urea exporters (Iran, Qatar, Saudi Arabia) sit behind the strait. Saudi Arabia is also a top-5 phosphate exporter. That supply is stacked up and production is suffering, causing nitrogen and phosphate prices to skyrocket on fear of lack of supply.

Fertilizer supply tight, prices soaring
The closure of the Strait of Hormuz is severely tightening global supply of nitrogen and phosphate fertilizers, with a third of the world's urea flowing through there. Prices have skyrocketed on fear of supply shortages, and the disruption is backing up production.
