Geopolitical risk supports WTI uptrend.
Oil has climbed to around $59 with a 1.7% daily gain, and the speaker says the move is a trend rise driven by geopolitical risk: Iranian protests and crackdowns plus a tough Trump response. That keeps a risk premium in crude even though later energy-company fundamentals are more complicated.
Semiconductor demand remains structurally strong.
The US semiconductor complex led Friday's rally, with the SOX up about 2.7%. TSMC's December revenue rose more than 20% year over year, SIA November global semiconductor sales rose 30% year over year to a record, and the SIA CEO expects 2026 chip sales to approach $1 trillion; Asia-Pacific sales were especially strong, supporting the broad semiconductor upcycle.
TSMC earnings upgrades remain strong.
TSMC's December and quarterly revenue beat expectations, with Q4 NT dollar revenue up 6.1% quarter over quarter and USD revenue up 1.8% due to Taiwan dollar weakness. JP Morgan expects gross margin of 62% in Q4 and 63% in Q1 2026, continued EPS upgrades, 2026 USD revenue growth of 30% versus 25% consensus, and maintains a NT$2,100 target versus around NT$1,680.
Intel turnaround needs execution proof.
Intel jumped 10% to a new high after Trump praised the US government's 10% stake and called CEO Lip-Bu Tan's meeting excellent. The company showed its 18A process at CES 2026 and targets foundry profitability in 2027 with 14A, but the speaker says execution and technology progress still need to be proven in earnings.
Wafer fab equipment leads 2026 semis.
Goldman Sachs called the semiconductor industry structurally bullish and singled out wafer fabrication equipment as 2026's top sector, naming Lam Research, Applied Materials, and KLA as key beneficiaries. These stocks rose 7-8% to record highs on the report.
AI power demand boosts nuclear suppliers.
Meta announced power-supply contracts with Vistra, Oklo, and TerraPower. Vistra will extend and uprate existing nuclear plants for near-term stable power, while Oklo and TerraPower provide future SMR and advanced nuclear capacity through 2030-2035. Nuclear-linked stocks surged: Vistra +10%, Constellation +6%, NuScale +4%, Oklo +8%.
Stargate power investment helps Oracle.
Oracle rose 5% after SoftBank's SB Energy, the Stargate power-infrastructure provider, received $1B investment from OpenAI and SoftBank, $500M each. The speaker says this helps address power bottlenecks for Stargate and is good news for Oracle, though he flags the circular SoftBank-OpenAI-SB Energy structure as a risk to monitor.
Mortgage bond buying supports homebuilders.
Trump directed Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to buy $200B of mortgage bonds to lower mortgage rates; mortgage rates fell below 6% for the first time in four years. Housing-related stocks such as Lennar and D.R. Horton rose, and homebuilders were up 9.2% for the week.
Bitcoin faces weak flows, carry risk.
Bitcoin is stuck near $90k after touching $80k, with very low volume and repeated ETF outflows: $648.9M over Thursday-Friday and $681M for the week. Fear & Greed has fallen back to fear, and the speaker says Asian funding stress, yen carry unwind risk, and US repo tightness make Bitcoin vulnerable; he sees little interesting upside until late January.
Yen intervention risk near 160.
USD/JPY is around 158 and approaching the 160 level where the BOJ has intervened. Japan's finance minister is traveling to the US for currency talks, and the speaker warns that rapid yen strength could trigger yen-carry unwinds, so BOJ communication and intervention risk should be watched.
M&A rebound favors Goldman, Morgan Stanley.
This week's US financial earnings include Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, Citigroup, JPMorgan, Bank of America, and BlackRock. The speaker says M&A activity was strong in Q4 and firms specialized in M&A, especially Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley, should look good; Citi's semiconductor research also stands out.
KOSPI earnings upgrades support upside.
KOSPI rose 6.4% in a week, with 12-month forward EPS up 6.9% and year-to-date EPS up 9.2%, while PER is only 10.1x and PBR 1.5x. Investment deposits, credit balances, and trading value are rising sharply, suggesting strong momentum; the speaker says tariff-related volatility could be a buying opportunity.
Korean chip earnings upgrades lift valuations.
Samsung Electronics and SK hynix drove KOSPI EPS upgrades, with one-week EPS revisions of +21.9% and +11.3% respectively. They trade at low PERs of 9.1x and 7.3x, and the speaker sees them as the main beneficiaries of the semiconductor upcycle and export strength.
Broker earnings soar on trading volume.
The speaker expects brokerage earnings to be extremely strong because Korean daily trading value has leveled up, overseas stock trading is growing, and weekly trading has opened in 2026, adding fee income. He names Kiwoom Securities, Mirae Asset Securities, Samsung Securities, and Korea Investment Holdings as ways to play the market's rising turnover.
Auto re-rating on robot, autonomous themes.
Hyundai Motor, Kia, and Hyundai AutoEver are being re-rated on robot and autonomous-driving momentum, with Hyundai Motor +7.5%, Kia +6.6%, and AutoEver +19% on Friday. The speaker says the sector is strong even as foreigners sell, reflecting multiple expansion.
Shipbuilding defense strong but earnings risky.
Korean shipbuilding and defense stocks have been very strong: HD Hyundai Heavy, Hanwha Engine, Hanwha Ocean, Hanwha Aerospace, LIG Nex1, and Hyundai Rotem all rose, supported by global defense strength and earnings momentum expectations. However, the speaker cautions that Q4 earnings may not justify the re-rating, so he would be careful into results.
BTS tour drives Hive event setup.
Hive's Q4 results are expected to be weak, but 2026 is the growth year: BTS's full comeback, a March 20 album, and a January 14 world-tour announcement. The analyst sees 2026 revenue near KRW 4T and operating profit near KRW 480B, with margin recovering to 12.1%, and a target price of KRW 410,000. The speaker says the world-tour announcement could be a sell-the-news event for traders, but if price falls near the monthly 5MA around KRW 313,000, it is worth buying.
LG Energy Solution bottoming, ESS offsets EV.
LG Energy Solution reported a worse-than-expected Q4 operating loss even with AMPC, as US EV battery demand weakened after subsidy repeal. But the analyst says the bad news is largely priced in, ESS growth can offset EV weakness, and the stock has about 40% upside to a KRW 560,000 target on 24-month forward PE upper-band valuation; he keeps Buy and says it has entered the buying range.
XCMG gains from machinery replacement.
XCMG is the world's fourth-largest construction machinery maker and a leader in cranes and excavators. The report highlights a 10-year replacement cycle, government maintenance and replacement demand, global smartization, emerging-market urbanization, and mining machinery with about 30% margins; mining machinery revenue targets 40B yuan by 2030 with 33% CAGR, and the target price of 15.7 yuan implies 38% upside from Friday's close.
China property recovery remains slow.
The speaker says China's property market is indeed recovering, but the market is too large to recover quickly. Average Beijing and Shanghai prices are still about 30% below peak, while core high-end property prices are rising, suggesting a slow, uneven recovery.
China A-shares offer 30% upside.
Dr. Wang expects China A-shares to deliver at least 30% returns this year. January-February should benefit from policy expectations, liquidity, and Spring Festival seasonality, but March-April may bring tariff issues, earnings gaps, and policy gaps; he advises selling rallies in those months and buying dips.
