Watch long-end yields for risk signal.
The key signal after the FOMC is whether the 10-year and 30-year bond yields come down. If long-end yields fall, the market is reacting favorably and risk assets, including crypto, should see upside; if not, volatility is likely.
Bitcoin long-term debasement trade remains intact.
Across all FOMC outcomes—25bp hike and done, no hike, or multiple hikes—Kris sees the long-term debasement thesis strengthening. A hike that is one-and-done would be the cleanest and likely push long-end yields down, supporting risk assets; no hike or multiple hikes would cause short-term volatility but still reinforce the debasement case. The clean Bitcoin bull case is the debasement trade, and all roads lead back to Bitcoin.
Ethereum outperforms Bitcoin on breakout.
ETH/BTC has reversed its post-2022 downtrend and entered a new weekly uptrend, now above the 200-day moving average against Bitcoin. A break above roughly 0.035 would confirm a multi-week/month uptrend. Despite past tokenomics skepticism, Kris says ETH is the play against Bitcoin right now, with speculative network-effect/tokenization optionality.
Tokenization tailwind benefits Ethereum.
Ryan sees Ethereum benefiting from the tokenization of securities. As more traditional assets move on-chain, ETH should regain the limelight. Major exchange CEOs and Larry Fink advocating tokenization bodes well for the broader market, though he agrees with Chris that not all altcoins will benefit.
Derive uptrend; onchain options growth.
Derive has been in a steady uptrend and is one of the better crypto trades since April/May. If it builds a deep, liquid onchain options market, it could become a premier venue for crypto options, which are currently fragmented and hard to access; that would support the token.
Kraken deal expands Hyperliquid fee flows.
Payward/Kraken will deploy onchain perps for US markets using Hyperliquid's HIP-3 framework starting January, licensing Hyperliquid's execution, order book, and liquidity backend to regulated US exchanges. This removes regulatory and user-friction barriers, expands access to US users, and drives more fee/user activity to Hyperliquid, benefiting its token via buybacks/burns. Bijan adds it is a fourth major revenue stream and could scale with Kraken/Coinbase market share.
Zcash continues strong relative uptrend.
Zcash continues to buck the broad crypto trend and rip, showing strong relative strength.
Near benefits from Zcash privacy demand.
Near is benefiting from Zcash's strength because it is the only blockchain besides Zcash where users can natively trade private Zcash transactions; it trades well above the prior breakout candle and is green while much of the market is down.
Venice AI shows real-world AI strength.
Venice AI is making new all-time highs, above the prior breakout candle, and has real-world usage supporting the token; the AI play remains strong.
Uniswap holds relative strength above breakout.
Uniswap is down slightly from last week but remains well above the key breakout candle, showing relative strength while many large crypto assets have rolled over below that level.
