Summary

This morning strategy meeting covers China, US, crypto, and Korean markets. The China segment highlights Weichai Power's AI data center engine growth and discusses China's property-driven consumer recovery. The US segment reviews the Jackson Hole speech, higher rate odds, and continued AI/big tech resilience. Crypto focuses on Bitcoin's 50-week moving average test and Korea's regulatory gap, while the domestic segment screens Korean low-PEG leaders and reviews SK Hynix HBM estimate cuts.

  • China is seen in a K-shaped recovery; domestic consumption is constrained unless property stabilizes.
  • Weichai Power is highlighted for AI data center and gas engine growth with a maintained Buy view.
  • Jackson Hole lifted September rate hike odds, pressuring rate-sensitive and high-valuation themes.
  • Bitcoin is testing the 50-week moving average near 81,300; uptrend confirmation is pending.
  • US big tech and S&P 500 are viewed as long-term upward, with rate-driven dips as buying opportunities.
  • Korean low-PEG leaders identified include Isu Petasys, APR, Cosmax, Hyosung Heavy Industries, and Samsung Electro-Mechanics.
  • SK Hynix target price was cut on HBM margin normalization; estimate stabilization is key to watch.
  • A panic-buying framework favors KOSPI 200 and KOSDAQ after sharp market breaks.
Ideas
Wang Jeong-bu Chinese market analyst 35:35
AI data center engine demand re-rates Weichai.
Weichai Power dominates medium-speed engines with about 40% China share and RNG engines with over 60% China share. Its AI data center engine guidance is 4,000 units this year and 6,000 next year at 35-40%+ gross margin, while natural gas power engines add about 2,000 units at 40-50% gross margin. If these engine businesses reach roughly 45bn CNY revenue by 2027 at 15% net margin, that alone supports about 27-42tr KRW of market value, covering the current market cap with the rest of the business nearly free. The analyst maintains a Buy and continues to raise estimates on AI data center generator demand.
Jun-hyuk Crypto Analyst 57:00
Bitcoin faces key 50-week moving average test.
Bitcoin is trading below the 82,000 resistance zone and has been rejected precisely at the 50-week moving average around 81,300-81,400, which is also the prior cycle high. The bottom is likely already in, but a sustained uptrend is not confirmed until this level is reclaimed. Sean Farrell of Fundstrat treats the 50-week moving average as the key bull/bear indicator for the second half.

US indices ultimately rise; buy dips.
The US government's enormous debt can ultimately only be inflated away, and the Fed will prefer to do it slowly and quietly. Therefore S&P 500 and Nasdaq/QQQ are ultimately in an upward trend. Rate-driven volatility and seasonal weakness should be treated as chances to add when indices fall below long-term moving averages and to trim when overheated.
Park Se-ik CEO, ex-Chief Strategist 108:40
Buy US big tech generals when cheap.
US big tech companies are the actual generals that maintain US economic, technological and dollar hegemony. Meta at around 15x forward earnings and similar quality big tech should simply be bought when they get cheap because external shocks or rate pressure create discount opportunities, not a reason to panic.
Park Se-ik CEO, ex-Chief Strategist 109:11
Accumulate future disruptors Tesla, Tempus AI.
Beyond today's big tech, future market-leading companies are being developed. Tesla and Tempus AI are current examples of companies that do not yet earn profits but are showing revenue growth and can become tomorrow's core leaders. Long-term investors should accumulate them through rate or seasonal volatility rather than trading in and out.
Buy Korean low-PEG earnings leaders.
In a weak index environment, the market's current leaders are found among Korean companies with PEG below 1 and visible earnings growth. Preferred names include Isu Petasys at about 0.8, APR at about 0.8, Cosmax at about 0.9, Hyosung Heavy Industries, and Samsung Electro-Mechanics; they have met or beaten consensus and have relatively higher earnings visibility. This leadership is unlikely to change in the second half, so upside should remain concentrated in these low-PEG earnings leaders.
Park Se-ik CEO, ex-Chief Strategist 125:39
Simmtech has remaining convertible bond overhang.
Simmtech still has about 35bn won of convertible bonds outstanding from a 50bn won issue with a conversion price around 22,000 won. Convertible bond supply tends to override fundamental stories and is unfriendly to existing shareholders because CB holders gain on upside but are protected on downside. This overhang is an important short-term risk even if the fundamental PEG setup looks cheap.
Choi Ho Vice President 129:30
SK hynix HBM margin expectations reset.
SK Hynix target price was cut from 330,000 to 240,000 won because HBM operating margins are expected to normalize around 60% rather than reaching 80% by 2027; Nvidia cannot keep accepting unlimited HBM price increases without hurting server budgets and conventional DRAM, and HBM4 supplier competition reduces the supplier premium. The stock's rebound requires earnings estimate downgrades to stop or HBM contract pricing to be confirmed, making it a key watch item rather than a clean long.
Park Se-ik CEO, ex-Chief Strategist 146:10
Buy Korean indices during panic crashes.
Korean broad indices such as KOSPI 200 and KOSDAQ have historically rebounded sharply after panic breaks; the recent drop below 5,500 produced roughly 30% rallies in these indices. The speaker plans to deploy only during market panics to capture these rebounds, making KOSPI 200 and KOSDAQ attractive vehicles under a panic-buying strategy.
