Venezuela oil supply recovery is coming.
The US plans to let Venezuelan stored and future oil flow to market under US-controlled sales, supply diluent, equipment, and services to stabilize and grow production. He sees several hundred thousand barrels per day of additional production in the short-to-medium term if conditions improve, though reaching historical levels requires tens of billions of dollars and time.
US oil and gas production keeps growing.
The US energy industry is fantastic: liquids production has tripled and natural gas has more than doubled in less than two decades, making the US the world's largest producer with declining capital intensity and increasing efficiency. Nuclear plant restarts are cheap opportunities.
Restarting shut-down nuclear plants is low-hanging fruit: Palisades is expected to come on soon, the Crane/Three Mile Island plant is in the process of restarting, and Duane Arnold in Iowa is another opportunity. Restarts can bring almost a gigawatt of capacity for only $1-2 billion, far cheaper than new nuclear.
SMRs will cut nuclear costs over time.
SMRs shift construction from stick-built sites to factories, where costs have fallen across other industries. Over 10 to 20 years, repeatable factory construction and redundancy from multiple reactors should drive down nuclear costs, and hyperscalers with strong balance sheets can provide equity capital.
Natural gas has enormous growth room.
Natural gas is the fastest-growing major energy source, is far cheaper than oil, and is the lowest-cost reliable, pipeline-deliverable energy source. He sees enormous room to grow both domestic consumption—data centers, manufacturing, long-haul trucks—and exports to Europe, with only modest rig additions needed to double Europe exports.
Rare earths need domestic supply chains.
One country dominates the rare earth supply chain and can use that leverage to shut down factories that need rare-earth magnets. The US must change economic conditions so that mining, processing, refining, and magnet construction are commercially viable domestically, or friend-shore with allies.
