Deregulation will accelerate nuclear buildout
Nuclear has the greatest energy density of any source and will be a real path to scalable energy in the long run, but for four generations government strangled it: fear-driven, slow and bureaucratic permitting, forced over-engineering, hard-to-permit enrichment, and subsidized intermittent sources that erode the economics of reliable baseload. The Trump administration's goal is to reverse that strangulation and let nuclear fly again: next-generation small modular reactors will go critical on federal land at Idaho National Laboratory by July 4 next year (permitted by DOE, working hand in hand with the NRC), commercial reactors will break ground even before then, and nuclear will move at a faster pace than it has before, although it will take time and nuclear is only about 4% of global energy today.

Natural gas fastest, cheapest data-center power
Natural gas is the fastest-growing energy source in the world (3% compound annual growth over 50 years, now 43% of US electricity) because it is the cheapest fuel wherever infrastructure exists, and it is by far the cheapest and fastest solution for powering the AI data centers that will need dozens of new gigawatts over the next several years. Gas turbine supply chains are tight but manufacturers are ramping capacity, and the administration intends to lift the hour limits on peaker gas turbines and let backup natural-gas generators sell into the grid at peak demand - all of which means more gas burn and more gas-fired capacity.

Subsidized intermittent renewables are grid parasites
Wind and solar are non-dispatchable 'derivative' sources that add cost rather than peak capacity. A grid must be designed for peak demand - a cold, still winter evening when wind, solar and batteries deliver only 2-3% - so layering them on forces new transmission lines and complicated ramping of gas plants, while the federal subsidy of 4 cents per kWh paid to wind exceeds the 2-4 cents of avoided fuel cost; if you are not dispatchable you are a parasite, and parasites are expensive. That is why US retail electricity prices rose 25% and wholesale prices over 50%. After 30 years of subsidies solar should fly on its own: the One Big Beautiful Bill cut over $500 billion of energy-technology subsidies and he wanted the full $1 trillion. He calls Elon Musk's view of solar and batteries wildly exaggerated and would bet solar never reaches 10% of global energy, since electricity is only 20% of energy and process heat, jet and ship fuel will never come from solar; solar's real role is remote power and sun-rich, cheap-labor places like the UAE.

Coal stays dominant globally for decades
Coal has been the biggest source of global electricity for 125 years and will remain so for decades more; it is the cheapest fuel wherever gas infrastructure does not exist, it has still grown about 2% a year for 50 years, and it is by far the largest electricity source in China, which built roughly a hundred coal plants last year - more new capacity than almost any other country adds. Political dislike does not change the fact that coal is not going away.

Smart consumers will eventually decide to make their own power, so the largest utility in the United States will be a distributed utility of homeowners with solar and batteries at home (nobody will put a nuclear reactor under their daughter's bed), complementing rather than competing with the centralized grid needed for industry, manufacturing and transportation.
