Summary

The broadcast reviewed a firmer Korean market close ahead of the Fed decision, with large-cap semiconductors leading but market breadth still weak. Panelists debated whether the AI speed-control scare was noise, how HBM and semiconductor equipment demand should be traded, and whether KOSPI or KOSDAQ offers the better setup. Later segments focused on SK hynix-Intel U.S. production talks, optical and power infrastructure, oil and long-term Treasury yields, and selective dip-buying levels.

  • KOSPI and KOSDAQ rebounded, but gains were concentrated in large caps and breadth remained soft.
  • AI speed-control concerns were generally treated as noise rather than a change to the HBM and semiconductor cycle.
  • Samsung Electronics, SK hynix, and Korean semiconductor equipment/materials were recurring investment focuses.
  • Power bottlenecks supported fuel-cell, transformer, and optical/telecom infrastructure themes.
  • Long-term Treasury yields, high oil, and Fed hike odds were seen as key macro risks.
  • KOSDAQ was favored over KOSPI for swing strategies, while robotics and nuclear were treated cautiously near term.
  • The SK hynix-Intel U.S. memory production report was debated as positive but not necessarily a range-breaking catalyst.
Ideas
Lee Kwon-hee CEO, Economist 19:33
SK hynix Intel U.S. memory positive
Reports that SK hynix is discussing U.S. memory production with Intel, possibly using Intel's Ohio site or a joint venture, are being received positively; SK hynix has bought Intel assets before, U.S. investment closes a gap versus Samsung, and the market treated the news as a positive even though it is not yet finalized.
Lee Kwon-hee CEO, Economist 20:40
HBM cycle intact; buy semi equipment basket
The AI speed-control scare is noise; TrendForce sees HBM shipments and the HBM market growing dramatically, with HBM4 contributing from 2026 and the market potentially expanding about ten-fold by 2030. Samsung and SK hynix capacity expansions, P4/P5 construction, Vietnam back-end moves, and HBM packaging conversion support domestic semiconductor equipment and materials, but order disclosures are scarce and valuations are high, so buy a diversified Korean semiconductor equipment/materials ETF or basket gradually.
Lee Kwon-hee CEO, Economist 40:57
Samsung Electronics heading to 300,000 won
Samsung Electronics should eventually reach 300,000 won as HBM share rises toward the 30% range, DRAM and packaging expansion continues, and the semiconductor cycle remains strong; when it reaches that level, trim and rotate into semiconductor equipment/materials.
Buy optical/telecom equipment on dips
AI data centers are hitting power limits, so reducing power use and connecting racks and data centers with optical links becomes essential; this should drive optical communication and telecom equipment demand, with AI plus 6G as a longer-term catalyst. Buy the sector on pullbacks and accumulate patiently, without concentrating the whole portfolio.
Avoid loss-making Bitgwa Electronics theme stock
Bitgwa Electronics is a loss-making optical/light-electronics theme stock with around KRW 400bn market cap and no earnings support, so investors should be cautious, even though some other optical names may be worth checking if their business exposure is verified.
Fuel cells benefit from AI power bottleneck
Power, not chips, is becoming the real AI data-center bottleneck. Time-to-power matters more than LCOE, favoring on-site SFC/PAFC fuel cells. Blue Energy is the SFC leader with capacity to expand from 1GW to 2GW and eventually 5GW; Doosan Fuel Cell's PAFC is entering Big Tech; component makers such as HanSun Engineering, Amosense, and Vinatech benefit from related capex, with Vinatech showing strong revenue growth.
Nuclear power rests near term
Nuclear power is needed longer term, but near term it is in a wait-and-see phase because site development and the Westinghouse/U.S. investment issue are uncertain; U.S. funding headlines have already been digested and nuclear shares pulled back, so the market is focusing on on-site power first.
Park Byeong-chang Director, MP Partners 90:47
KOSPI upper box; trade above 6900
Despite macro worries, the U.S. market's refusal to fall suggests an upward bias; KOSPI is in the upper part of its 6,400-7,200 box. Short-term trading is supported only above roughly 6,900-7,000, while below that level traders should avoid chasing.
Park Byeong-chang Director, MP Partners 108:14
Long US Treasuries; yields may fall
The bond market has overshot on Fed hike expectations: the 2-year Treasury yield around 4.66% is too high versus the 3.5-3.75% policy rate, and if the Fed hikes, 2-year, 10-year, and 30-year Treasury yields may fall rather than rise because uncertainty is cleared and inflation concerns ease.
Park Byeong-chang Director, MP Partners 117:07
Samsung, SK hynix to rally in October
In October, Samsung Electronics and SK hynix should rally: October first-week earnings season starts with already-lowered FX expectations, buybacks finish around October 13 and historically stocks rise after buybacks end, and fourth-quarter/year-end seasonality plus post-election optimism support demand. Use that strength to take some profits.
KOSDAQ leads KOSPI in sideways market
The market has no trend. KOSPI is below short-term moving averages and pressured by foreign selling, while KOSDAQ has strong 800 support, a triangle formation, rising volume, and relative outperformance, so KOSDAQ may move first; use KOSDAQ swing trades rather than waiting for large caps.
Buy transformer makers for order backlog
Hyosung Heavy Industries, HD Hyundai Electric, and LS Electric have strong technology, large order backlogs, direct hyperscaler/package orders, and U.S. factory expansion that hedges tariffs. After a five-month correction and valuation debate, they remain attractive for mid-term regular accumulation.
Avoid expectation-driven robotics and nuclear
Robotics and nuclear are driven by expectations rather than near-term revenue or orders; humanoid mass adoption may be far off like autonomous driving, and recent sharp volatility shows expectations reversing. Semiconductor materials/equipment are more realistic.
Swing trade Korean semiconductor materials/equipment
Semiconductor materials/equipment have resilient flows and more realistic earnings/order visibility than robots or nuclear; split front-end, back-end, and inspection equipment and use swing trades while the market is trendless.
Shipbuilding and defense orders improving
Shipbuilding and defense are showing increasing orders and earnings; even after sideways price action, their improving fundamentals make them worth watching from now.
Watch battery materials and LG Energy
The battery sector is rotating from cell makers toward materials; LG Energy Solution received a wave of reports and started to move, so report-driven interest is beginning to work and battery materials/LG Energy Solution are worth watching.
SK hynix Intel news not box breaker
The SK hynix-Intel U.S. memory production/JV news is likely more than rumor because Intel's Ohio site exists, SK hynix previously bought Intel assets, and an ex-SK HBM executive joined Intel, but it is not a game-changing catalyst: completion is around 2030-31, U.S. fab costs and execution are difficult, and it is not enough to break the Samsung/SK hynix box. He reduced his SK hynix position.
Prefer Coherent; selective Korean optical names
He is selective on optical/telecom. Daehan Optical is far below its prior high and hard to recover; KMW and HFR look like one-day bounces; if trading the theme, prefer U.S. Coherent because Korean firms lack Nvidia value-chain exposure, while in Korea only RF Materials and Daehan Optical look tradeable.

Buy Korean dips near 6200/750
He expects the market to stay boxed until the Fed/BOJ events pass. If the market drops sharply, he would buy rather than sell: KOSPI around 6,200 and KOSDAQ around 750 are dip-buy zones, with SK hynix around KRW 1.6mn and Samsung Electronics around the low-200k won area.
US index floors likely hold
He sees limited downside for U.S. indices: even if S&P 500 falls, it likely holds above the July low area around 7,400, and Nasdaq likely holds around 25,000 rather than falling to 23,000; that implies only about a 3% correction.
US 10-year yields heading to 6%
Long-term U.S. Treasury yields can rise to 6% or more: PCE inflation is above CPI, the Fed must prioritize inflation, historical hiking cycles average about eight hikes, and nominal GDP growth around 6.5% suggests 10-year yields can return above nominal GDP as in the old normal. Five percent is not the ceiling.
AI speed-control noise won't hurt Samsung/SK
The AI speed-control narrative is likely tied to OpenAI/Anthropic IPO positioning and open-versus-closed model competition. A real industry-wide stop is implausible because of prisoner's-dilemma incentives and ladder-pulling behavior; high-end hardware demand remains, so Samsung Electronics and SK hynix should not be hurt by the noise.
Crude oil likely stays high
Crude oil is likely to stay high and can break its prior high: Iran has geopolitical initiative and wants to pressure Trump before the midterms, shipping routes and Saudi exports are disrupted, dated Brent already exceeded $130, and high oil may persist through year-end, so treat it as a constant rather than a variable.
