Liquidity supports Korean uptrend; buy dips.
The Korean market uptrend is not over. Recent volatility is a speed adjustment after a sharp rise, and liquidity remains abundant: customer deposits surpassed KRW 110tn, only a few weeks after being in the KRW 90tn range, and KRW 5.5tn of individual buying entered KOSPI on the Feb 2 drop while deposits still rose. Foreign selling looks like profit-taking in stocks that rose too much rather than a structural exit, and domestic retail/institutional buying is absorbing supply. The speaker advises not chasing stocks that already rose 10-20%; instead, use volatility to buy on dips and split purchases. He would only look for a top when three signals appear: US interest rates turn upward, semiconductor earnings peak, and liquidity expansion ends.
KOSDAQ gains on retail liquidity, policy.
KOSDAQ has seen strong buying, largely from individual money moving through KOSDAQ ETFs rather than pure institutional demand, which is positive for the KOSDAQ. Government policy to revitalize KOSDAQ could add momentum.
Bio is laggard; watch rotation.
Bio was relatively under-highlighted compared with battery, robots, and semiconductor equipment/materials during the KOSDAQ rally. If theme rotation spreads to bio, it could extend the KOSDAQ rally.
ESS demand and battery metals rising.
Energy and secondary battery stocks are strong. ESS demand expectations are rising because AI data centers and industrial electrification are expanding, with global ESS installations expected to grow more than 40% this year and North America demand increasing. Battery metal prices are also supporting the group: lithium has risen about 80% and nickel about 20% over six months, raising the likelihood of cathode material price increases in Q2.
Solar oversold; China rebate removal helps.
Solar/renewable energy stocks have been oversold and neglected. China's plan to abolish export VAT rebates for solar cells/modules from April reduces Chinese price competition; US solar stocks including First Solar rallied; Musk's SpaceX/xAI merger highlighted space solar; and AI data-center power demand plus US pressure on big tech to build generation supports all power sources. Nuclear is the main theme, but solar and wind have no bad news and offer a low-point entry.
LGES wins Qcells battery supply contract.
LG Energy Solution signed a 5GW battery supply contract with Hanwha Qcells' US unit, worth about KRW 1tn. The contract validates growing ESS demand from AI data centers and electrification, supporting LG Energy Solution's battery/ESS business.
Battery metal prices support cathode hikes.
Lithium, nickel, and cobalt prices have risen over the past six months—lithium by about 80% and nickel by about 20%. This increases the likelihood of cathode material price increases in Q2, supporting the battery materials supply chain.
Nuclear benefits from US plant demand.
Nuclear is the main energy theme. The US is prioritizing Korean construction of nuclear power plants in the US during tariff negotiations, reviving expectations for Korean nuclear exporters and EPC contractors. Power equipment is also being highlighted as an additional beneficiary.
Asset revaluation boosts Korean asset-rich stocks.
Expectations for asset revaluation are rising for companies with large real assets due to Commercial Act revision talk, including holding and financial companies. Asset-rich stocks are strong, with Sindoh trading heavily and Sampyo Cement at its fourth consecutive upper limit.
Paradise gains from Chinese tourist influx.
Chinese tourists are expected to surge into Korea during the Lunar New Year holiday because they are avoiding Japan amid Japan-China tensions, benefiting casino stocks such as Paradise.
