Those who managed their elderly parents money, share your portfolio mix? Howdy all, I recently saw a post in the sub where someone realised his parents were being taken to the cleaners by a financial advisor. I’m in the same predicament where I’ve just found out my parents are paying 2% which is nearly 5K a year on their 275K portfolio. Financial advisor has advised them that their money will run out before they reach mid 90s. They’re in good health so our target is for the capital to last at least till my mother reaches 100 in 28 years. I’m not surprised their money is going to dwindle away when they’re paying crazy fees like this for platform fees for higher cost proprietary mutual funds. For 20 years, they were with Fidelity via another financial advisor (before he tried to swindle them into buying an unregulated bond in his company name - another horror story). I have found the paperwork. Managed to re-create the portfolios by selecting the same funds and doing away with the high management fees. Before we fire the existing FA, would like to hear from others in the sub who are power of attorney or simply helping their parents manage their investments in retirement. From The 275K Pot, they draw down 12K a year to supplement living expenses on top of Pensions. So a high divided yield fund mix could work well. We’re based in the UK for context.
