The Federal Reserve decided to keep interest rates unchanged, with the federal funds rate staying in the 3.5%–3.75% range. The vote wasn’t unanimous (11–1), which suggests there’s still some internal disagreement on the path forward.
From what I understand, policymakers are trying to balance a few conflicting signals right now:
Inflation is still coming in higher than expected
The labor market is showing mixed signs
Ongoing geopolitical tensions (including the current conflict situation) are adding uncertainty
In their statement, the Fed didn’t change much overall, but they did slightly revise their outlook expecting a bit stronger growth and somewhat higher inflation for the year. Feels like they’re still in wait and watch mode rather than committing to cuts or yikes just yet.
