I’m a huge advocate for auditing old brokerage accounts, and today I found out why. I just got flagged for a piece of a **$19.9 million settlement** for **VEON Ltd. (formerly VimpelCom)**.
This is for anyone who held their ADSs way back between **June 2011 and November 2015**. The lawsuit was about some massive bribery scandal in Uzbekistan that supposedly inflated the stock price a decade ago.
I haven’t even thought about VEON since 2014, and I honestly didn't think I'd be eligible for anything from that far back. But apparently, the **claim deadline is April 28, 2026**, and they are actively [looking for claimants](https://11th.com/cases/veon-investor-settlement).
I used [11th.com](http://11th.com) to scan my archived trade history because there was no way I was going to find PDFs from a broker I closed in 2016. It flagged the trades automatically.
**Check your old accounts:** If you were trading in the "post-recession" era (2011-2015), you probably have a few of these "zombie" settlements waiting for you. Don't let the settlement fund just sit there—the average recovery is estimated at **$0.069 per share**, which adds up if you were a long-term holder.
Better to get a surprise check than let the lawyers keep the change.
