I’m posting to see if anyone has dealt with this before.
I closed an options position on Robinhood (sold to close 2 contracts of a GLD call expiring in May 2026). On the day I closed it, Robinhood showed my “credit at close” around $30.2k (which matches the trade confirmation: fill price \~$151/contract, net proceeds \~$30,199.91 after fees).
Then the next day, the app started showing “credit at close” around $44,029.92 for the same closed position. I took screenshots.
What’s confusing: I got multiple, conflicting explanations from Robinhood support over chat:
• At first, support said it was a trade correction and that the higher amount would be reflected after settlement.
• Later, support said there was no cancel/rebook / reversal / as-of correction in clearing records, and that the $44,029.92 is not actual proceeds.
• Then another agent said this is related to Section 1256 mark-to-market and that “the system doesn’t register 1256 positions well” and it would show up on a future 1099 (but they weren’t consistent about which year/form).
Right now:
• My trade confirmation shows only the \~$30.2k proceeds
• My app UI still shows \~$44k “credit at close”
• Support is giving mixed answers (UI error vs 1256 mark-to-market vs earlier “trade correction”)
Questions:
1. Has anyone had Robinhood show a wildly wrong “credit at close” / realized P&L number after closing an options trade?
2. If this is supposedly a Section 1256 mark-to-market thing, where does it actually show up (Form 6781 vs 1099-B) and how would it appear for an ETF option like GLD?
3. Any advice on getting a clean reconciliation from Robinhood (trade support / tax reporting team) so taxes don’t get messed up?
Not asking for legal advice — just trying to understand if this is a known UI/tax reporting issue and how others resolved it. I can share redacted screenshots if helpful.
