Hi everyone,
I’m a data scientist, and in my free time I’ve started building a **free AI-powered tool** for **in-depth analysis of Indian companies’ annual reports, concall transcripts, and credit rating reports**.
Recently, **Tijori (Zerodha)** launched a new feature around annual report and company analysis. Coincidentally, I had **already started working on a very similar idea before this launch**.
When I saw their announcement, my first reaction wasn’t discouragement - it actually **made me more excited**.
It felt validating.
It told me that:
* This problem is real
* More people are thinking in this direction
* I’m probably not overthinking the need for such a tool
Currently, Tijori’s feature is:
* Free for around **10 companies**
* Paid later via a **yearly subscription (\~₹3,000)**
Seeing this pushed my thinking further:
>
**Quick Note for Readers**
If you’re **not interested in the background or motivation**, feel free to **skip ahead to the section:** ***“What I’m Looking for Feedback On”***
That’s the most important part of this post.
# Why I Started This Project (Motivation & Context)
In regular discussions with friends and family, I often hear:
>
Fair point but it always left me curious.
Around the same time, I was reading *Poor Charlie’s Almanack*. One thing really stood out:
**Buffett and Munger’s edge comes from deep understanding, not shortcuts.**
So I picked one **NIFTY 50 company** and decided to read its annual report from start to end.
Honestly?
My mind was blown.
The report was packed with insights but I struggled to:
* Connect management commentary with numbers
* Understand which metrics actually matter long term
* Separate signal from noise
I spoke with a few friends who have cleared the CA exam, and their response was very real:
>
That’s when the idea clicked.
All this information already exists : **annual reports, concalls, credit rating reports**.
The real problem is **time, structure, and interpretation**, especially for non-finance backgrounds.
So I started building an **AI-based tool** that helps:
* Structure this information
* Connect dots across sections
* Highlight what actually matters
Not to replace learning, but to **accelerate understanding**.
# Current Status of the Project
* I’ve started with **annual report analysis** for one of the NIFTY 50 companies
* Early results look promising
* But I’m now stuck at a key design decision
And this is where **I really need community feedback**.
# What I’m Looking for Feedback On
When you look at an **annual report analysis**, what actually helps you the most?
# Option 1:
**Simple, high-level summary** (similar to Tijori)
* Quick to read
* Beginner-friendly
# Option 2:
**Point-by-point deep analysis**
* Business model breakdown
* Key financial metrics and *what they indicate*
* Management commentary → numbers → long-term implications
* Risks, red flags, and consistency checks
* **Which points/sections should absolutely be included**
* And within each of those points:
* What kind of **details, explanations, or interpretations** actually add value
* What level of depth is helpful vs unnecessary
* What usually gets ignored but shouldn’t
# Option 3:
**Hybrid approach**
* One concise summary
* Followed by optional deep-dive sections
From your experience:
* What format adds **real value**?
* What sections are **non-negotiable**?
* What do existing tools miss?
* If you do fundamental analysis, what feels most time-consuming or confusing?
Feel free to use **technical financial terms**. I’ll learn and try to incorporate them properly.
# Future Plan (Based on Community Feedback)
* Start with **NIFTY 50 annual report analysis**
* Expand to **Top 100 companies**, improving with feedback
* Gradually add more companies based on capability
* Then extend the same framework to:
* **Concall transcript analysis**
* **Credit rating report interpretation**
This is a **free-time passion project**, and the goal is to build something the community genuinely finds useful, not just another dashboard.
Thanks a lot for reading
I’d really appreciate **any feedback—positive, critical, or brutally honest**.
If this tool existed today, **what would you want it to do better than everything else out there?**
