**Context:**
* I have been following the classic Canadian Couch Potato strategy for years using the TD e-series index mutual funds with a 25% split allocation across the 4 td e-series index mutual funds across all my registered (RRSP, LIRA, TFSA, FHSA) and unregistered (cash) TD Direct Investing (web broker) accounts.
* I understand that TD Direct Investing previously used to have a $9.99 transaction fee for ETFs but it appears they recently introduced [commission free ETFs ](https://www.td.com/ca/en/investing/direct-investing/commission-free-etfs)(including some Vanguard ones).
* To lower my MERs, I am considering switching the td e-series index mutual funds from all my registered accounts over to the Vanguard ETFs (I have never held ETFs before) while still maintaining the same asset allocation splits.
* These are the switches I am considering:
* TDB909->VAB
* TDB900->VCN
* TDB902->VFV or VUN
* TDB911->VIU
**Questions:**
1. Are these ETFs the best Vanguard equivalent ones for the e-series? Also, are these the best ones to consider from Vanguard? I also noticed there's the VFV and VUN. Which one would be better?
* *Context: I know that TD also has their own e-series equivalent ones but I believe the spread might be higher due to lower volume. Vanguard is also a very trusted brand in index investing, so I am thinking of going with Vanguard.*
2. Does the commission free trading apply to both buying and selling for these ETFs?
3. Does TD Direct Investment partake in fractional DRIP for these ETFs?
4. To rebalance these ETFs according to my 25% split asset allocation, do I need to sell overweighed ETFs and then buy the underweighted ones with the proceeds or is there a "Switch" functionality?
* *Context: I currently use a "Switch" transaction for my td e-series index mutual funds but I believe it may not be available for ETFs.*
5. To trade these ETFs, do I need to wait for the market to be open?
* *Context: I currently at times place my e-series transactions when the markets are closed and they fill later when the markets re-open but I believe I may need to wait for the market to be open to place any transactions with ETFs.*
6. Any other insights or advice?
