I went through 2025 having only one friend get laid off. Yesterday four of my friends got laid off, all different states (CA, TX, NV, WA) and all different industries (finance manger for a 30 dealership auto group, programmer in major tech co, online advertiser, and retail warehouse manager). I have never had more than two friends get laid off in a single day during dot com bust or 08, and those were always workers at the same company who did widespread layoffs.
Is this a super random coincidence, or have layoffs been much more widespread so far this year?
