This is not financial advice. It’s not good advice either. It’s not even advice at all. It’s simply an option for those who, like me, might be feeling angry, disgusted, and powerless over the actions of the Trump administration. Obviously if you support them, this post isn’t for you, but if you don’t and happen to own shares of any companies that do… you can always sell.
Doing so won’t bring anyone back to life. It won’t reimburse the tax payers for hundreds of billions of dollars being used for nothing more than political theater with a cast of federal troops in blue cities all over the country. It won’t make MAGA supporters morph back into the pro-state’s rights, anti-federal overreach, constitution loving “don’t tread on me” conservatives of ages past. In all likelihood, it won’t do anything more than slightly reduce that horrible feeling in your gut. It may not even do that… but it might.
It might make you feel less worse when you sell. It might make you feel less worse when you find new companies to invest in. It might make you feel less worse each time you check your portfolio. Hell, with enough people, it might just bring a boot-licking company’s stock price down by a fraction of a percent… or maybe more. It might just make a fascist-ignoring CEO scratch his chest and wonder why there’s a wallet-sized hole where their soul should be. It might catch on and, once again, show the power that retail traders have, causing institutions to jump ship - but likely not.
In all likelihood, it might just be a tiny salve for that horrible feeling in your gut, but if that feeling is as gut wrenching for you as it is for me, it might be worth the horrible taste. Plus, anything tastes better than fascism. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a self righteous high horse to ride off on. Fortunately for all of us, jumping on the wagon behind me is optional. It’s a free county after all, and while I might dislike its current leadership, I fucking love the USA 🇺🇸 ✌️
