I’ve been lurking on this sub for a little while now, and trying to educate myself and my wife more. Still doing some research.
Long story short, I’ll be selling my house and moving to an area/situation where I likely won’t be able to purchase a house immediately, and will likely be renting. I’m not sure exactly what the timeline would be, but barring a sudden inheritance of substantial money, it’ll likely be 5-10 years.
The equity from the house sale would net me approximately $300k, and my goal would be to park it somewhere that it is at least likely to beat inflation and not sit idly in a savings account, effectively devaluing due to inflation.
I just don’t want to do what my parents did, where back in 2016 my mom inherited about $500k and just burned through a decent amount and let the rest sit in savings. I ran the numbers, and had she invested that solely in VOO it’d be in the $1.3-1.4m range currently.
I know the timeline is relatively short, especially from what I’ve read in this sub regarding long term planning.
I apologize if this is the wrong sub, but any direction would be appreciated.
