Trump defense budget lifts global defense stocks.
Trump announced after the close that the 2027 US military budget would rise to $1.5T from $1T, pushing global defense stocks to 52-week highs. Lockheed Martin, RTX, L3Harris and General Dynamics were among the US names that hit new highs, and the defense momentum was broad across the US, Europe, Japan, Taiwan and Korea, though the budget still needs congressional approval.

Palantir valuation burden outweighs defense catalyst.
Palantir fell 2.7% even after the defense budget news. It gave back premarket gains as broad tech weakness dominated, and with a 160-170x multiple, valuation burden outweighed the positive defense catalyst.

Gemini gains and AI moat lift Alphabet.
Alphabet kept rising despite tech weakness. Gemini is being integrated into Gmail with AI overviews, subscriptions, writing/reply help and health features, improving monetization; Gemini's chatbot share rose from 6% to 21.5% while ChatGPT fell from 87% to 65%. An analyst upgrade to overweight argued Google's decade-long AI/chip investment built a competitive moat and its consumer and enterprise distribution should capture AI profits as AI moves from confusion to synergy in three to four years.

Amazon AI shopping and AWS drive upside.
Amazon is the best-performing big tech year-to-date, up 6-7%, and BofA named it a top Q1 pick. AWS cloud growth and retail efficiency are improving, its 'buy for me' AI shopping feature is moving faster than OpenAI's retailer-by-retailer approach, and Amazon is using AI/robots and performance-based cost cuts in logistics to improve profitability.

H200 China approval may surprise Nvidia upside.
Nvidia fell with tech but had no bad news. H200 China approval may come this quarter for commercial use, and Nvidia is demanding full prepayment for H200, which Chinese firms are accepting, indicating pricing power and product competitiveness. China revenue is not in consensus, so approval could add upside surprises.

Memory supply tightness supports Micron pricing power.
JP Morgan is positive on Micron and says memory supply tightness will support price strength at least through 2026. Fab expansions take until 2027 to ramp, so Micron keeps pricing power, while HBM, AI inference context windows and humanoid robots create new memory demand and the shortage may worsen.
Bitcoin vulnerable to short-term funding stress.
Bitcoin is weak near $90k after touching $89k and approaching $88k. Hong Kong HIBOR overnight stress and ETF net outflows show Bitcoin remains highly sensitive to short-term liquidity, and a CME gap near $88k remains open. If Bitcoin drops while equities rise, short-term funding stress should be checked.

AI adoption crosses 16% diffusion threshold.
JPM data shows 17% of S&P 500 companies have adopted AI and 20% will within six months. IT/professional and financials are above 29-30%, and Everett Rogers' diffusion theory says adoption accelerates after 16%, so AI diffusion may now be entering an acceleration phase.

Palantir TAM and defense R&D drive upside.
The US defense budget is shifting toward procurement and R&D, with R&D rising sharply. Palantir is likely to capture defense R&D spending, signed a $446M two-year US Navy contract for shipbuilding supply-chain modernization and decision systems, and its AIP platform could expand from pilot to the entire Navy supply chain. Palantir's Q3 revenue growth was 62.8% with a 33.3% operating margin, guidance beats are likely, and its 2030 TAM of $120B-$300B, with a bull case up to $1T, means current revenue is only about 2% penetrated, so the high P/E can be justified if penetration rises.

HD Hyundai benefits from US Navy shipbuilding.
Palantir's US Navy shipbuilding supply-chain contract could expand to the entire Navy supply chain. HD Hyundai Heavy Industries has partnered with Palantir since January 2022 for shipyard digital transformation, creating a possible connection among Palantir, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and US Navy shipbuilding.

Buy Korea dips on tariff ruling volatility.
If the tariff ruling comes out illegal, the 10-year Treasury yield may tick up and US markets may shake, but Korea, which is export-sensitive and was hit hardest by tariffs, should be relatively strong. Any correction in the Korean market should be treated as a buying opportunity; if the ruling is legal, there is no real impact.
Samsung Biologics capacity growth supports earnings.
Samsung Biologics is rising strongly, with full plant utilization and its sixth plant construction starting this year and completing next year, supporting earnings growth expectations and recurring strength during earnings seasons.
Rotate from batteries to Korean automakers.
Battery-chain investment points are being damaged, so funds may rotate from Korean battery stocks to large-cap autos. Hyundai Motor and Kia are being viewed positively with an upward direction.

Korean shipbuilders gain on positive guidance.
HD Hyundai Heavy Industries gave positive guidance and Korean shipbuilders are strong early this year. Hanwha Ocean and Hanwha Engine also rose, showing sector momentum.
Korean defense stocks rebound on momentum.
Korean defense stocks rebounded strongly, with Hanwha Aerospace and Hyundai Rotem up sharply and monthly gains large, showing renewed sector momentum.
LIG Nex1 Saudi Bigung deal catalyst.
LIG Nex1 rose about 8% and monthly about 37% after news that it is negotiating with Saudi Arabia's defense ministry for local production of Bigung, adding a company-specific defense export catalyst.
BTS tour schedule catalyses HYBE rebound.
Entertainment stocks rebounded and dip-buying demand appeared ahead of a big event next Wednesday, the BTS world tour schedule announcement, which is a HYBE-specific catalyst.
Memory price upcycle drives Samsung upside.
Samsung Electronics reported Q4 revenue of KRW 93T and operating profit of KRW 20T, beating consensus but below recently raised estimates. Memory operating profit was KRW 17.7T with DRAM KRW 15.5T and foundry still loss-making. Memory price strength is beginning, the AI cycle is expanding memory demand in quality and quantity, HBM/server DRAM/LPDDR/SSD demand is strong while supply remains limited, and annual operating profit estimates are being revised up to KRW 120-150T, so earnings estimates still have upward room.
Korean semiconductors remain market leadership overweight.
KB Quant says semiconductors ended their correction and resumed market leadership. Trading value and market cap concentration in semiconductors are near 40%, and the report continues to recommend overweighting semiconductors as the market's main leadership.
Diversify Korean portfolio with semis-complement sectors.
KB Quant identified machinery, electrical equipment, holding companies, utilities and securities as sectors that do not underperform much when semiconductors lead and defend returns when semiconductors rest. Named stocks include Doosan Enerbility, Mirae Asset Securities, Hyosung Heavy Industries, HD Hyundai, KEPCO, Hyundai E&C and LS.

China chip equipment localization lifts NAURA.
A Huatai report on NAURA Technology says China wafer fab capex will expand in 2026-2027, domestic semiconductor equipment localization was only 22% in 2024 but is targeted at 60-70% by 2030. Assuming a RMB 420B China semiconductor equipment market, 70% high-end mix, 40% NAURA share and 20% net margin, the speaker calculates 2030 market cap around KRW 146.5T versus current KRW 76T, and he says he also owns it.
