Tanker spot strength drives earnings upside
China Merchants Energy Shipping is the world's no.2 tanker owner with about 50 VLCCs. VLCC spot rates are around $117k/day, up roughly 335% YoY, while breakeven is only about $30k/day. Q2 revenue rose 59% QoQ and net profit rose 233% QoQ, with bulk and container segments also benefiting from higher freight rates. The company has maintained about 40% dividend payout, implying a 3.4%-5% dividend yield depending on earnings. The core call is that if VLCC spot rates remain elevated the earnings and dividend upside is very large, but if spot strength fades the stock should be avoided.
Oil supply disruption lifts energy stocks
The US-Iran military conflict escalated and Saudi refinery attacks pushed Brent above $100 with diesel at record highs. Energy was the only positive S&P 500 sector and XLE closed at its highest level since its 1998 listing, making energy equities the clearest beneficiary of the oil supply disruption.
Meta's AI subscription opens new monetization
Meta launched an AI Muse personal assistant with paid tiers of $20-$100 per month, its first meaningful ad-free AI subscription revenue. Investors read it as a new monetization path beyond advertising, driving a 6.5% one-day jump.
Memory shortages boost AI semiconductor complex
The Philadelphia semiconductor index outperformed because UBS forecast third-quarter memory average prices to rise more than 20% and DRAM/NAND supply shortages to persist through 2027. Micron rose 2.75%, SK Hynix ADR jumped over 7%, AMD gained on AI server CPU strength, and Marvell rallied on data-center revenue growth from $2.2bn in 2023 to a projected $15-16bn next year, confirming AI demand is spreading from training to inference.
Long-term Bitcoin setup remains bullish
Bitcoin is trading near $77-78k with short-term ETF outflows, but the long-term chart remains intact and price is getting closer to breaking above the large overhead supply zone. Combined with expected dollar liquidity expansion from Treasury/Fed actions and European stress, the strategic bias is bullish into October.
EUR/JPY decline signals dollar liquidity expansion
The speaker adopts the framework that EUR/JPY will fall from around 185 toward 140 or below as a signal of large dollar liquidity expansion. French fiscal fragility, eurozone imbalances, Bessent's FX interventions, and expected Fed repo/liquidity backstops support monitoring EUR/JPY as the cleanest confirmation of this liquidity regime shift.
Wait for Oracle cloud/FCF inflection signals
Oracle is central to the AI infrastructure cycle via its cloud and RPO backlog, with consensus looking for 28% revenue growth, 60% cloud growth, and roughly $642bn RPO, about half tied to OpenAI. However free cash flow remains negative due to aggressive capex, and the stock is down about half from its high at around 18.4x forward P/E. The setup is attractive only after confirmed signals such as a cloud beat, larger RPO backlog, or FCF inflection, unless the market breaks from higher rates.
US power policy favors Korean battery/ESS
The US power grid national emergency and FERC actions are excluding Chinese power equipment and mandating ESS/behind-the-meter power for AI data centers. Korean battery/ESS makers are direct beneficiaries because they have US capacity and can replace Chinese supply; LG Energy Solution, Samsung SDI, and SK Innovation are expected to take share, with BTM/grid policy accelerating demand from 2025-2026.
K-pop majors look undervalued on M&A
HYBE and SM Entertainment look undervalued on a global M&A and franchise basis: HYBE has fast-growing younger IPs, Weverse MAU expansion, and a BTS comeback; SM shows the best recent earnings margin trend. Ticket prices have repriced higher and global top-tier K-pop IP is scarce, providing a floor even while near-term earnings are volatile.
Ten-year yield may test five percent
The 10-year US Treasury yield is seen staying elevated and potentially testing 5.0% because oil remains high, August employment was strong, and inflation data are still firm. That makes it hard to expect near-term yield declines and supports being short the 10-year note.
