Dell earnings confirm AI infrastructure leadership
Dell Technologies reported blowout earnings and guidance, surging over 30% in one session. The company is a leader in AI infrastructure, and its results confirm that AI demand for servers, CPUs, and storage is robust. Dell's stock has risen 150% from its recent low, but the momentum is supported by strong fundamentals and further upside is likely as the AI capex cycle continues.
Software ETF surging, AI rotation confirmed
The software sector is undergoing a major rotation as AI money shifts from hardware to software/infrastructure. The IGV software ETF surged over 6% in one day, posting its best monthly performance since October 2001, confirming that software companies are now monetizing AI. The ETF is breaking out of a long base and has room to run toward the $120 resistance level.
Snowflake data platform revaluing on AI demand
Snowflake's strong earnings and the market's positive reaction highlight the revaluation of data platform companies. As AI drives demand for data infrastructure, Snowflake is positioned to benefit from increased enterprise spending on cloud data platforms. The stock has gained over 60% from its recent low and the trend is intact.
Ford ESS business benefits from AI power demand
Ford announced a strategic focus on ESS (energy storage systems) for AI power infrastructure, receiving a positive market reaction. The company is positioning itself as a key player in the AI energy ecosystem. The stock has risen almost 60% from its recent low and has further upside as the AI power theme gains traction.
Korean semiconductors undervalued with earnings surge
The Korean semiconductor sector remains the core driver of the market. DRAM and NAND markets are undersupplied, with DDR5 demand rising and HBM soaking up capacity. TrendForce raised global memory market forecasts to $889B for 2025 and over $1.28T for 2026. The semiconductor sector's 12-month forward P/E is at 5x, the lowest in 20 years and half the historical average of 10x. With earnings surging, there is significant room for multiple expansion. Even a modest P/E expansion to 6.5x would push the KOSPI toward 9,700-10,000. Samsung Electronics and SK hynix remain the primary beneficiaries.
Semiconductor equipment stocks temporary weakness, rebound ahead
Semiconductor equipment and materials (소부장) stocks such as Simtech, Korea Circuit, Daeduck Electronics, TLB, and others have weakened recently due to a temporary supply-demand imbalance caused by the listing of single-stock leveraged ETFs. This is a technical, not fundamental, issue. Once the rebalancing is complete (about a week), these stocks should rebound as fundamentals remain strong. Key sub-sectors include substrates, packaging, glass substrates, EMIB, CPO, and GaN/SiC power semiconductors. Among them, Korea Circuit and Haesung DS are relatively undervalued, while Daeduck Electronics and Simtech have high earnings expectations.
KOSDAQ rebound likely after margin washout
The KOSDAQ has been severely underperforming the KOSPI, but the credit balance (margin debt) has fallen about 15% from its peak, which historically signals a rebound. Foreign investors were net buyers of KOSDAQ at the end of last week, providing a positive signal. After extreme divergence, a mean-reversion rally in KOSDAQ small/mid-caps is likely.
Gamma squeeze risk, dip buying opportunity
The Korean options market shows extreme gamma exposure; the VKOSPI volatility index has surged to over 70, more than 3x its long-term average. This creates a fragile environment where small triggers can cause sharp moves. While this is a risk, it also presents an opportunity: if a sharp pullback occurs due to gamma decompression, it would be a buying opportunity because the fundamental thesis remains intact. Investors should monitor gamma squeeze dynamics and be ready to buy dips.
SI stocks outperform on AI earnings growth
System integration (SI) stocks are the main beneficiaries of the AI software shift in Korea. Unlike platform stocks, SI companies are seeing actual earnings improvement from AI-related projects. Samsung SDS, LG CNS, and Hyundai AutoEver are expected to report double-digit earnings growth in H2 2026, driven by data center investments from large corporations. SI earnings growth momentum is significantly higher than platform companies like NAVER and Kakao. These stocks have been bottoming for a long time and are now breaking out.
Robotis benefits from Nvidia partnership and AI
Robotis is a key beneficiary of the Nvidia and Jensen Huang Korea visit, as it has a partnership with Nvidia in robotics. The stock is part of the physical AI theme, which is gaining momentum. Additionally, the broader robotics theme (including Hyundai Group stocks) remains attractive.
Shipbuilding stocks gain from nuclear submarine talks
South Korea is holding follow-up talks on nuclear submarines and nuclear energy agreements next week, which will benefit shipbuilding and defense stocks. Hyundai Heavy Industries, Hanwha Ocean, and Doosan Energy are the primary beneficiaries. This is a near-term catalyst that is likely to sustain momentum in the shipbuilding sector.
