Summary

A live All-In show from Austin hosted by David Friedberg and Jason Calacanis with guests Colin and Samir, Chris Williamson and Bryan Johnson. The conversation is mostly about the creator economy: YouTube's connected-TV lead and zero-cost revenue-share model against Netflix's roughly $18 billion content budget, the collapse of traditional broadcast audiences, and how podcasters monetize through ads, Spotify's new video partner program, clips, newsletters, courses and live events. The final act turns to health, with Bryan Johnson on ketamine brain imaging, sleep optimization and a new food-testing program that found heavy metals and glyphosate in packaged goods. Market-relevant content is thin: a low single-digit Bitcoin allocation, a bearish structural read on legacy cable networks, and Spotify buying its way into video podcasting.

  • Colin and Samir explain how YouTube's recommendation algorithm and connected-TV reach shifted creators toward long-form video.
  • Nielsen connected-TV data cited: YouTube about 11% of usage, Netflix about 8.5%, Amazon Prime Video near 4%, YouTube Premium around 125 million subscribers.
  • Netflix is moving back toward licensing creator-native shows, releasing Amazing Digital Circus on Netflix and YouTube simultaneously.
  • Hosts argue Fox News, CNN and MSNBC audiences and ad dollars are eroding and their cost structure cannot match independent creators.
  • Chris Williamson details podcast monetization: high-CPM audio ads, flagship ecosystem partnerships, clip monetization, a 300k newsletter, and a Spotify video partner program that outearned his YouTube AdSense.
  • Jason Calacanis repeats a low single-digit Bitcoin allocation view during the Gemini sponsor read.
  • Bryan Johnson describes measuring ketamine's effect on brain connectivity, his sleep and resting-heart-rate protocol, and Blueprint running near break-even.
  • Don't Die Certified will crowdfund contaminant testing of packaged, baby and pet foods; early results are bad and Gerber blocks non-California IPs from its disclosures.
Ideas

Hold low single-digit Bitcoin allocation.
Jason says the besties already own a decent amount of Bitcoin and that everybody should hold a low single-digit percentage of their assets in it. The sizing logic is asymmetry: the position is small enough that losing all of it is survivable, while the payoff is uncapped if it goes up 100x from here.
Samir Co-host, The Colin and Samir Show 27:45
YouTube's free-content model pressures Netflix economics.
The economics of television have flipped: on Nielsen connected-TV data YouTube is the most-used app at about 11% of usage versus Netflix at about 8.5%, yet YouTube spends nothing on content and simply revenue-shares with creators while Netflix commits roughly $18 billion a year to programming. Netflix is therefore moving from taste-maker and original producer back toward licensing creator-native shows (the Amazing Digital Circus deal releases on Netflix and YouTube simultaneously), and with YouTube Premium already near 125 million subscribers the distribution advantage keeps compounding for the platform that pays nothing up front.
David Friedberg CEO, The Production Board 29:31
Legacy broadcasters keep losing audience and ads.
Friedberg argues traditional broadcasters are in a one-directional structural decline: Fox News, CNN and MSNBC audiences are vaporizing as long-form independent creators take attention, and he calls it entropy - audience erodes first, advertising dollars follow, and the cable distribution deals that fund the business become worth progressively less. Their cost structure (studios, large crews, layered talent cuts and shareholder margins) cannot compete with creators who publish from Zoom and keep their own IP, and the talent they would need to license (Rogan, Tucker Carlson, Megyn Kelly, Mr Beast) has no economic reason to go backwards to cable.
Chris Williamson Host, Modern Wisdom podcast 80:11
Spotify pays video podcasters above YouTube.
Chris says Spotify's move from an audio platform to video is underpriced by most observers. His show joined the new Spotify partner program and in January and February earned more from Spotify - with only 10% of the catalog uploaded - than from its entire YouTube AdSense take. Spotify is throwing everything at the format, promoting flagship video shows on billboards and sharing premium subscription revenue, which creates a second monetization pool for podcasters next to YouTube and a direct challenge to YouTube's hold on video podcasts.
