China competition pressures German auto industry.
China is a major challenge for the German automotive landscape. The shift to battery EVs has made access to battery technology and raw materials much harder for German OEMs, while around 100 new Chinese OEMs have created very tough competition and German component and vehicle exports to China have fallen significantly. Jopp has already seen customer programs postponed and volume drops, forcing plant closures and about 500 layoffs, so the German auto sector faces sustained pressure.
