EU-India FTA aids European export sectors
The EU-India free trade agreement concluded after nearly two decades and will eliminate or reduce tariffs on 96.6% of EU goods exported to India. The EU claims the deal will double EU goods exports to India by 2032. This should improve market access for European exporters, especially carmakers and car parts makers (auto tariffs cut from up to 110% to as low as 10%, car part tariffs abolished), machinery (44% tariffs cut), chemicals (22%), pharma (11%), wine (150% down to 75%, eventually 20%), and olive oil (45% to 0%). Tariffs phase in over five to ten years and the deal still needs European Council and Parliament approval, so it is a developing positive catalyst rather than an immediate clean trade.
