BLDR cheap, normalized earnings far above price.
Builders FirstSource is a company they know well, now down over 50% from its high near $230 to around $75. The business has earnings potential of $15-20 per share in a normalized environment. They view this as a great entry point again and are building a position, expecting strong returns over the next 3-5 years as the cyclical recovery unfolds.

Management noted that while overall repair and remodel demand is solid but mixed, the professional segment is holding up better than DIY, and there is a focus on smaller projects that use less wood. — This provides insight into demand trends at home improvement retailers, suggesting professional-focused businesses are stronger than DIY-focused ones.

These are the things I would own now. Fuel, fertilizer, PVC pipes, paint, roofing material. I see the price of everything going up, but the things that are most closely connected with the hydrocarbon value chain are going to see the biggest increases. Crude oil is the foundational raw material for petrochemicals, agricultural fertilizers, and construction materials like PVC and paint. If oil shipments remain blocked, the input costs for these downstream products will skyrocket. Companies that manufacture or distribute these materials will experience massive pricing power and inventory value appreciation. LONG. Equities tied to fertilizers and hydrocarbon-heavy building materials serve as a leveraged, secondary play on a sustained global oil supply shock. A rapid de-escalation in the Middle East normalizes oil flows, crashing the input costs and speculative premium on these materials.

BLDR is a direct customer of LPX. The author states BLDR's earnings surprise probability is negative (-5%), and its stock price has a high correlation (0.81) with LPX. If LPX reports weak demand and misses earnings as expected, it strongly implies that BLDR, its direct customer, has reduced its orders and is likely to report similarly poor results. The author states, "If they [LPX] come out and say demand is soft... I mean BLDR is their customer." A negative report from LPX would serve as a strong confirmation signal to short BLDR ahead of its own earnings announcement. BLDR may have diversified its suppliers or its business in a way that mitigates weakness from LPX. The negative sentiment could already be priced in, limiting downside. TICKER - DIRECTION

Lowe's is using FBM for direct fulfillment of large orders (e.g., drywall) to job sites via 'Pro Extended Aisle', which could significantly alter supply-chain dynamics for building materials. — This move could increase Lowe's competitiveness for large pro orders, potentially pressuring building products distributors with a new channel.
