Thomas Braziel is the founder and managing partner of 117 Partners, an investment firm that buys, brokers and advises on distressed cryptocurrency and bankruptcy claims. He set it up in 2023 to add brokerage and advisory work to the claims investing of 507 Capital, a firm he co-founded that began buying Mt. Gox bankruptcy claims in 2015 and later worked on insolvencies including Cred, QuadrigaCX, Three Arrows Capital, Celsius and FTX. From 2016 he was the court-appointed receiver of Fund.com Inc. until July 2024, when the Delaware Court of Chancery discharged him, adopting a special magistrate's findings that he had used receivership funds for personal gain, and ordered him to pay about $1.95 million in restitution; he later reached a settlement with the successor receiver. His public commentary centres on bitcoin, crypto-treasury companies and bankruptcy-claim situations.
