Berkshire Hathaway recently invested $30B in Google at all-time highs, yet its cash reserves still grew to $500B.
The author questions how Berkshire will eventually deploy this massive dry powder, noting that the "Magnificent 7" stocks are currently too expensive.

Recents Berkshire investment in Google made headlines and tbh I was genuinely suprised. What shocked me the most is not that they bought Google but that they did it right now at ATH prices and commited 30B$ to it which is a big move for their recent history.
I thought that they finally started to deploy the capital reserves they have been stockpiling for the last 3+ years but actually this enormous pile of cash keeps increasing and the pace of that growth is still insane.
Even after all these investments in Alphabet Berkshire cash pile grew by another 50B$ from 2025Q1 to 2026Q1. To me it's very interesting to see [Berkshire's balance sheet history](https://www.insicard.com/stocks/BRK-B.US?tab=financials).
Visualising the data in charts tells me that they are not deploying significant amounts of capital yet. The investment in Google and their portfolio rebalancing sounded to me like important moves but in the grand scheme of things those were not THAT important. I wouldn't say these operations were marginal but do they really move the needle that much for Berkshire?
To me this half a Trillion $ dry powder cannot grow indefinitely, sooner or later they need to find a strategy for this cash that isn't just holding it in Treasury bills. Tbh I have no idea what they could do about it tho, the mag 7 (which are quite literally the only stocks that can absorb that amount of capital) are quite expensive at the moment.
The "Mag 7" stocks are the only equities large enough to absorb Berkshire's massive capital. These mega-cap tech stocks are currently trading at very expensive valuations. Avoid allocating heavy capital to mega-cap tech at current all-time high prices. Mega-cap tech could continue to rally despite high valuations, or earnings could grow to justify the multiples.
Berkshire Hathaway is sitting on $500B in cash and Treasury bills. This cash pile cannot grow indefinitely; eventually, management will need to execute a major strategic move. Watch Berkshire for future massive acquisitions or market-moving capital deployments. Berkshire may simply continue holding T-bills, dragging down overall equity return potential if markets rally.
