Summary

CNBC's Deirdre Bosa reports on AI's threat to enterprise software. She demonstrates how, without coding, she used AI to build a functioning task dashboard similar to Monday.com and integrated it with Gmail and Google Calendar. She argues that mid-tier software companies are plausibly vulnerable to AI disruption, while security and systems-of-record names like CrowdStrike and Palo Alto Networks are a different class. She also notes the recent software selloff may be indiscriminate, but she is unsure if it is overdone or just starting.

  • Deirdre Bosa tests whether AI can replace basic enterprise software tools.
  • She builds a working Monday.com-style task dashboard in half an hour using prompts.
  • The dashboard integrates with Gmail and Google Calendar despite no coding skills.
  • She says mid-tier enterprise software stocks are plausibly vulnerable to AI.
  • CrowdStrike and Palo Alto Networks are described as systems of record and security, a different class.
  • She notes software selling has been indiscriminate so far.
  • She is unsure whether the software selloff is overdone or just getting started.

AI can replicate Monday.com-style tools.
I built a functioning task dashboard resembling Monday.com in half an hour with a few prompts and Gmail/Calendar integrations. Although it lacks Monday.com's polish and ten years of enterprise features, security, and data, it works even though I cannot code, showing that Monday.com-style low-hanging-fruit enterprise software is vulnerable to AI.

Security systems less AI-disruptable.
I could not get anywhere near vibe coding at CrowdStrike or Palo Alto Networks because these are systems of record and security, a very different class of enterprise software. That makes them less vulnerable to AI-driven DIY software creation than mid-tier software names.

AI threatens mid-tier enterprise software.
AI now lets non-developers build basic enterprise tools, so software companies that sit in between—those that are neither simple tools nor complex systems of record or security—are plausibly vulnerable to AI disruption. The market is already selling these stocks, though the selling has been indiscriminate so far.
