Summary

The panel discusses Robinhood Chain's launch, which quickly became dominated by memecoin activity despite plans for tokenized stocks. They highlight Morpho's notable integrations with Coinbase and Robinhood. The main debate centers on whether Ethereum is undercharging L2s for security, with Kain advocating for higher fees to capture value for ETH and others arguing low fees are essential for adoption and ecosystem growth.

  • Robinhood Chain launched with memecoin frenzy overtaking its tokenized stock ambitions
  • Morpho praised for landing Coinbase and Robinhood integrations, setting an example for DeFi startups
  • Debate over Ethereum's L2 settlement fees re-ignited by Robinhood Chain's minimal payments
  • Kain Warwick urges Ethereum to charge L2s more to capture value and force weak L2s to become L1s
  • Benjamin Sarquis Peillard argues low fees attract companies and capital, comparing Ethereum to Amazon's early days
  • Weso notes L2s lack true Ethereum security, so low fees are justified
  • Consensus that competition among L2s and chains is ultimately healthy for the space

Morpho integrations drive DeFi success
Morpho is executing extremely well with high-profile integrations into Coinbase and now Robinhood, creating a clear path for other DeFi startups to replicate its success. The protocol is delivering tangible value (e.g. 7% yield) and is doing fantastic.

Raise L2 fees to capture ETH value
Ethereum is massively undercharging L2s for the security and benefits of being an Ethereum rollup. If Ethereum raised fees, either L2s would stay and pay more, directly capturing more value for ETH, or weak L2s would be forced to become L1s, which would eliminate parasitic L2s and create a fairer competitive landscape, both outcomes being accretive to Ethereum.
