Which is the best MSCI World ex-USA UCITS ETF for non-US investor?
Hey everyone,
I'm looking to complete my global portfolio setup with a developed ex-US allocation to pair with S&P 500 or direct US exposure. As a non-US resident/taxpayer, I’m sticking strictly to UCITS funds to avoid US estate tax traps and 30% dividend withholding.
I’ve narrowed down my options for tracking the MSCI World ex USA Index, but I'm trying to decide between the main offerings:
1. iShares MSCI World ex-USA UCITS ETF USD Acc (IXUA / EXUS)
TER: 0.15%
Domicile: Ireland
Pros: Liquidity, huge AUM, BlackRock stability.
2. Xtrackers MSCI World ex USA UCITS ETF 1C (EXUS / XMWX)
TER: 0.15%
Domicile: Ireland
Pros: Massive fund size, physical replication, tight spreads on European exchanges.
3. UBS MSCI World ex USA UCITS ETF USD Acc (WXUS / CHSI)
TER: 0.09%
Domicile: Luxembourg
Pros: Cheapest TER out of the three.
Which one are do you suggest for me to hold and why? Perhaps another one?
Also, is there any tax drag or treaty difference (e.g., withholding tax on Japanese/UK/Canadian dividends inside the fund) between Irish vs. Luxembourg UCITS funds for developed world equities? Is UBS's lower 0.09% TER worth picking over the liquidity and massive AUM of Xtrackers/iShares? And how has bid-ask spread and volume been for you on Interactive Brokers / European platforms?
Thanks
