How do you mentally recover from losing $73k?
Took out a personal loan to put toward a down payment on an apartment, but the mortgage process took way too long. I thought, “fuck it, I’ll mess around with stocks in the meantime.”
Stocks turned into options. Options turned into revenge trading. And somehow I managed to go from $75k → $7k → back to $52k → now $2k.
I’m completely lost and honestly feel like shit. I can’t sleep, can’t breathe properly, and can barely function. I know I made a massive mistake, but I genuinely don’t know what to do now. I feel like I lost a decade of my lifespan just last month.
Do I take another loan and YOLO it into 0DTEs and try to win it back? Or do I take the L, forget about the money, and accept living the peasant life for the next 5 years?
And honestly, what the fuck do I even tell my family? My girlfriend especially. How do you explain to someone you love that you managed to lose $73k in a single month because you got greedy, started revenge trading, and completely lost control? I feel ashamed even thinking about having that conversation and I know she wouldn’t understand.
Disclaimer: I make around $100k net per year, so I’m not going to be homeless or anything. But I’ll probably be eating noodles and McDonald’s for the foreseeable future.
I know the obvious answer is probably “take the L,” but I’d appreciate hearing from anyone who has completely fucked up financially and managed to recover, especially how you dealt with the mental side and telling the people closest to you.
