Angel One blocked my ability to sell shares due to their own HUF PAN system issue - no prior warning and weeks of follow-ups
I wanted to share an extremely frustrating experience I’ve had with Angel One and also understand if anyone else has faced something similar.
What started as a routine **bank account/KYC modification** turned into weeks of repeated follow-ups, resubmitting documents, new requirements being raised one after another, contradictory responses, and almost no proactive communication.
But the much bigger problem came later.
# My sell orders started getting rejected
Despite completing the documentation requested from my side, I discovered that my **BSE sell orders were being rejected**.
The account otherwise appeared operational.
I had received **no email, SMS, call, or advance communication** from Angel One informing me that there was any restriction affecting my ability to sell shares.
I only found out when I actually tried to sell.
By then, the market had moved and I was unable to exit the positions when I intended to.
# The reason Angel One eventually gave me
After repeated calls, emails and escalations, Angel One finally informed me that the problem was related to their system being unable to process the **Date of Incorporation format on a valid HUF PAN**.
This is a government-issued PAN that has been in use for years.
So effectively, I was unable to sell my shares because **their internal system could not process a valid HUF PAN correctly**.
What I genuinely cannot understand is:
**Why should a customer bear a financial loss because a broker’s system cannot process a valid government-issued document?**
And if this issue was serious enough to prevent sell orders from going through, why was I never informed about the restriction beforehand?
# The support experience made things worse
Throughout this process:
* I submitted the documents requested.
* I resubmitted documents when asked.
* New discrepancies kept being raised separately instead of being communicated together.
* Different responses and timelines were provided at different points.
* I repeatedly had to follow up myself just to understand what was happening.
This went on for weeks.
# Even the escalation mechanism did not work
What frustrated me even further was Angel One’s own escalation process.
Their website lists **Arvind Jha as Principal Officer under the SEBI Investment Adviser Regulations**.
We tried reaching the concerned officer using the contact number published by Angel One.
Instead, the call was redirected to regular customer support, and the support team **refused to connect us with the concerned officer**.
This raises a very basic question:
**If a customer dealing with rejected sell orders and a resulting financial loss cannot reach the designated Principal Officer, what is the purpose of publishing an escalation matrix at all?**
For a broker handling people's investments, I find the combination of **system failure, lack of communication, support failure and escalation failure deeply unacceptable**.
I have now escalated the matter and am documenting the entire chronology along with emails, screenshots and other evidence.
Based purely on my experience, I would **strongly advise anyone in my network to think very carefully before choosing Angel One as their broker**. I personally would not want someone else to go through this experience.
Has anyone here faced a similar issue with **Angel One, particularly with an HUF account/PAN or unexplained BSE order rejections?**
Also interested in hearing from anyone who has gone through the **SEBI SCORES / ODR escalation process** for a broker-related trading restriction.
