Gold vs Gold + Silver: Which is better for long-term diversification?
I’m already investing in mutual funds for long term (Risk Appetite: High) and want to diversify my portfolio by adding some exposure to precious metals for the long term.
I’m considering two options:
Invest only in a Gold FoF – 100% gold exposure
Invest in a Gold + Silver FoF – approximately 70% gold and 30% silver
I’m slightly skeptical about adding silver because of its higher volatility, although I understand that it can potentially offer higher returns and diversification.
For a 10–15+ year investment horizon, which option would you prefer and why?
Is the 30% silver allocation worth the additional volatility?
Does silver meaningfully improve diversification when gold is already part of the portfolio?
Or is sticking to gold alone a better choice for long-term wealth preservation?
