I did the math and I don't give two shits about gas prices anymore
I decided to calculate how badly expensive gas is fucking me. I drive a shitbox SUV that gets 20 mpg. I drive ~13,700 miles a year like the average American, and I live in one of the most expensive gas markets in the country.
Gas is up about 40% where I live. At 13,700 miles and 20 mpg, I burn about 685 gallons a year. The increase in gas costs me about **$1,096 extra per year**.
When the Iran situation started getting worse, I bought oil, gas, energy and tanker stocks. Then, I got even more regarded and **took out margin to buy a tanker futures ETF.**
**I made $8,800 on that trade this week alone.**
So the thing I'm supposed to be furious about costs me roughly **-$1,096/year**, while ONE position I bought because of the same macro situation just did **+$8,800/week**. And that's not even counting the rest of the energy shit I own.
I've hedged my gas bill so aggressively that I am now financially incentivized to watch the number at the pump go up. I pulled into a gas station recently, saw the price, and instead of getting pissed my first thought was: **"Fuck yeah, let's see what the brokerage account is doing."**
At this point I don't give two shits that gas is expensive.
This is not financial advice. I'm just bragging.
